I'm looking into ordering half a cow that has been grass fed. I've tried a variety of grass fed steaks and some of them are not good. I got a few grass fed steaks from an Amish town a while ago, not good. Another time, I got grass fed steaks from the co-op I'm apart of and they also did not taste good. When I go to Harry Caray's restaurant the grass fed steak doesn't have that same taste and it's delicious! So, is there a difference in a milking cow and a cow that is bred for their meat, like Angus? I need help! ???

You should probably get a few pounds to sample before you buy half a cow.

Yeah, I plan on getting a few to try them out but I'm having a hard time determining the differences in cow type, aging process, etc. when I go head and order the meat.

optionT I'm going to post a link to an article that will have a lot of information for you on grass fed beef. I agree with the findings that the New Zealanders did on grass feed beef. The best flavored meat I've eaten was a four year old herford cow. She had never had any grain and had been fattened on grasses then fed dry alfalfa hay in the winter time. the genetics for cattle that can fatten on grass and hay are almost lost I believe and also the genetics for tenderness and flavor.
