Right now it feels more like deflation than inflation.

I like the assertion that inflation in the main necessities can cause a ripple effect of deflation elsewhere

it's sort of an artificial debate.
we see inflation in some markets and deflation in others.
seems like food is getting more expensive. (new manufactured stuff)
but used sofa's on craigslist, you can get some awesome deal. $35 for a like new leather couch with no fleas, i think that's an awesome deal. 8)
i don't know if that's the best example of deflation. the housing market price declines might be an example of deflation, although i think that's more the result of a bubble popping and sanity returning.
i notice businesses get a lot more desperate and lower prices. i'm not sure if that's an example of deflation.
