Obama released a statement this morning showing full support for South Korea's retaliation plan for the destruction of the Cheonan.

Technically, we're now one illegal ship movement by North Korea away from nuclear war.

From the White House:

President Obama fully supports President Lee in his handling of the ROKS Cheonan incident and the objective investigation that followed. The measures that the government of the Republic of Korea announced today are called for and entirely appropriate. The Republic of Korea can continue to count on the full support of the United States, as President Obama has made clear.

Specifically, we endorse President Lee’s demand that North Korea immediately apologize and punish those responsible for the attack, and, most importantly, stop its belligerent and threatening behavior. U.S. support for South Korea’s defense is unequivocal, and the President has directed his military commanders to coordinate closely with their Republic of Korea counterparts to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression. We will build on an already strong foundation of excellent cooperation between our militaries and explore further enhancements to our joint posture on the Peninsula as part of our ongoing dialogue.

As President Lee stated in his address earlier today, the Republic of Korea intends to bring this issue to the United Nations Security Council. We support this move. Secretary Clinton and Ambassador Rice are each consulting very closely with their Korean counterparts, as well as with Japan, China, and other UN Security Council member states in order to reach agreement on the steps in the Council.

In response to the pattern of North Korean provocation and defiance of international law, the President has directed U.S. government agencies to review their existing authorities and policies related to the DPRK. This review is aimed at ensuring that we have adequate measures in place and to identify areas where adjustments would be appropriate.

The U.S. will continue to work with the Republic of Korea and other allies and partners to reduce the threat that North Korea poses to regional stability. Secretary Clinton is currently in Beijing and she will travel to Seoul for discussions with President Lee and his senior advisors on May 26 before reporting back to the President on her consultations in the region. Secretary Gates is in close contact with ROK Defense Minister Kim and will meet with him and other counterparts at the June 4-6 Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. President Obama and President Lee agreed to meet in Canada at the time of the G-20 Summit.

When Israel says jump.. Obama says How High?

"Of course it is interesting to note how Israel screams about North Korea's (and Iran's) nuclear weapons just as evidence surfaces probing Israel was offering to sell nuclear warheads to South Africa!"

Israel demands world 'respond decisively' to North Korea nuclear test
Pyongyang regime says it carried out underground nuclear test, larger than one conducted in 2006.
By Barak Ravid and The Associated Press Tags: North Korea Iran nuclear Israel news

Israel has joined the West in condemning North Korea's latest nuclear weapons test.

"Israel views the second North Korean nuclear test with extreme gravity, and is party to the global concern caused by this event," according to a Foreign Ministry statement released on Monday.

"Furthermore, Israel is concerned with North Korea's nuclear proliferation, which has negative implications in this region," the statement read.

"Israel expects the international community to respond decisively to the nuclear detonation by North Korea, so as to transmit an unambiguous message to other countries."

In Pyongyang, North Korea said that it had carried out a powerful underground nuclear test - much larger than one conducted in 2006. The regime also test-fired three short-range, ground-to-air missiles later Monday from the same northeastern site where it launched a rocket last month, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing unnamed sources.

President Barack Obama assailed North Korea on Monday for the new missile tests, saying the world must "stand up to Pyongyang and demand that it honor a promise to abandon it nuclear ambitions."

Appearing on the White House steps, Obama said that its latest nuclear underground test and subsequent test firings of short-range ground to air missiles "pose a grave threat to the peace and security of the world and I strongly condemn their reckless action."

Hardly. North Korea has, maybe, three or four working bombs, and working delivery systems are questionable. Worst case scenario? No more Seoul. And then no more North Korea. It will not spill over, militarily, outside of the Korean peninsula.

However, the economic repercussions will be vast.

Oh, come on people! This is not going to end up as "The Day After."

Here's how it will pan out:

1) another "incident," probably another ship confrontation. South Korea sends a North Korean vessel to the bottom.
2) North Korea retaliates in some escalating way, possibly another naval incident...or two.
3) South Korea sinks another one or two.
4) North Korea mobilizes, and South Korea likewise.
5) North Korea opens up long-range artillery on Seoul and the northern parts of the Republic of Korea (ROK/South).
6) North Korea attempts a "surprise" bust through of the border, with the aim of capturing Seoul (only a short distance over the border).
7) South Korea and US forces attempt to stop the North Koreans from pouring into the country with surface and air assets.
8 ) If ROK/US are unsuccessful, they will use tactical nuclear weapons in the vicinity of Seoul, resulting in extreme damage to the metro area. If ROK/US successful, North Korea will let one of their own loose on Seoul as revenge, leveling most of the city.
9) B-2s annihilate Pyongyang. End of the "Democratic People's Republic" of Korea.
10) The Republic of Korea establishes a new capital at Pusan, annexes what remains of the North, and starts to rebuild.
11) China & Russia are laughing hysterically, as the economic & military repercussions for the United States are enormous. Beijing doesn't really miss it's parasitical neighbor.

There isnt much to prepare for really. If those 2 decide to duke it out its over in less than 72 hours. They have been in a stalemate for sometime for decades. If one shoots they both unload at the borders and they destroy each other pretty fast. Maybe not total destruction but not much worth fighting for when they are finished.

All that the state of Israel has to do is to find the needed uranium with the same ID as the one from North Korea.....make a nuke and use it on South Korea and then North Korea would be blamed.

That's harder than it seems. The fissionable material would need to come from a North Korean reactor. Mossad, for all its infamy, ain't going to just waltz into North Korea's nuclear weapons production facilities, and take some.

Each reactor is unique, and produces characteristic impurities in the U or Pu - which is a signature when analyzed.

Well they don't need to do that either, they just need to get BBC to write that it is proven that the Nuke was North Korean... The world will believe it!
