Hi all,
This is what I would do. I would use a really thick Tarp, or sometype of thick rubber membrane. Cut into a 100 ft. Circle. In the center would be a hold with a hose attachment. Around the edge of the circle I would run a cable & or Weights. Drop over the spill. use some weights to keep it down and you can tighten up the cable around the gushing oil that gets suck up through the center hole. Then someone else comes up with a Permanet solution.

They already tried that with a 125 ton Containment Dome (http://www.livescience.com/environment/containment-dome-oil-spill-100507.html) - it was 4 stories in height.
Didn't work due to frozen methane crystals forming and clogging the exit pipe.

Why not just use those floating tubes they are using to protect the mainland and make a circle about 2000 feet across?
As the oil rises to the surface it would be trapped the the floating containment circle. Then you could suction off the top layer keeping the oil and putting the water back into the ocean.
I'm surprised they have not thought of this already.

The pressure coming out of that well is tremendous. I dont think much of anything would be able to just go over it and cover it. Even the dome they build probably wouldnt be heavy enough to stay in place.
Those floating tubes wouldnt work because all of the oil isnt coming to the surface. Its starting out a mile below the surface and if it comes up noone can say for sure where it will come up.

i dont think they know how bad the pressure is .... this may never be cap . there playing with something they have never done before . they open up something with out knowing how to stop it .... they never ask the what if
