BP warned on Tuesday that a planned attempt to plug its gushing Gulf of Mexico oil well may be delayed or abandoned, as the energy giant faced mounting pressure from the Obama administration to contain the catastrophic spill.

Equipped with underwater robots, BP engineers plan on Wednesday to inject heavy drilling fluids in the mile-deep well, a tricky maneuver and its latest bid to halt the flowing oil that has shut down fisheries and soiled coastline.

BP executives have repeatedly stressed the so-called "top kill" procedure is a complex process that has never been attempted before at such depths, but the Obama administration, under public pressure, is impatient for swift results.

I think they could probably mess up a cup of coffee at this point, based on what I've seen. >:(

BP will turn off live underwater cameras when they try the "top-kill" plan to alleviate any embarrassing moments they may encounter as they try to quell the hell unleashed before the world.

I agree, we are seeing the same video from 2 weeks ago before oil started blasting out from all over the gulf floor.

Silly Americans... so easy to fool...

Starting to look more and more like a purposeful act here, consolidating the world food supply no doubt

The way I figure it, once they begin closing off the throat of the BOP, they have seconds to get a ton of cement down the throat of the well. If it blows out the existing holes, then they are where they started. If it blocks the existing vents aand they don't quickly get it down the well, they will blow that thing to a very sorry outcome.

Judging by the flows, my guess is they do NOT have a pump big enough and with enough pressure capability to pull this off.

They could pull it off if they cut the riser, insert a restrictor (deep) down the well and then pump.

What I saw so far was a jackass pissing in the ocean and thinking it might make the water level higher.

Dont fall for the enviro- hype, this is definatley BAD, but not apocalyptic.Oil used to pool up above ground before they started to use it, Im sure it occasionally got into rivers and lakes, also, Major earthquakes could open a pool up as well, and Im sure it has happened. Crude is not nearly as toxic as refined product. will Lousiana, and Florida suffer? YES, is it the end of the world? NO
