BP has been working the oil reservoir beneath the Deepwater Horizon for several months (decades, if you count exploration).

Matt Simmons is the Chairman Emeritus of Simmons Co International, a Houston based investment bank for the oil industry. They managed about $60 billion when he was the active manager.

I have been a big fan of Matt for about 5 years, and have followed him in interviews etc. Because of his recall of historical detail of the oil industry, sometimes he reminds me of a baseball trivia fanatic talking about the '69 Mets - total command of the facts.

I have never seen Matt looking so worried as in this video. Maybe there's something else going on, e.g. death in the family, that contributes to his look of worry.

Anyway, in this interview about the Deepwater Horizon spill, he says the facts presented by BP don't add up, and that what they indicate is a small spill that we've been seeing in the videos, and a much larger spill, possibly stemming from previous drilling efforts that were abandoned.

The guy on the right is Matt Simmons. He's about 70 years old, very wealthy but he's obviously not happy with what is going on.

"It Could Be 24 Years Before The Deepwater Gusher Ends" - in the second interview he explains more of the details of the disaster, from the perspective of an experienced geologist & oil-man.

that video is frightening

someone posted it earlier, in the middle of a thread (not complaining here G.D.)

this video deserves its own thread

they both agree "time to use explosives"

Their intention which lead to all this was cutting corners to save money, so it can be argued that up to a point they knew exactly what they were doing. Once all their poor judgment converged - KABOOM!

I was all for use of nukes two weeks ago. Then I saw this map of the Gulf oil pipelines and rigs.

What would occuur with the displacement a nuke would cause?

I think were just screwed now until the relief wells the original drill well and pump it full of crete.

Simmons is also the one who stated that well could spew for 9000 days unabated.

I hope that he is on the high side and that equilibrium would ultimately win out.

With ~2,000PSI of positive pressure @ 5k ft. the blast won't be radiating out very far, plus if the detonation was made to be directional that would also limit the radius of any nuke detonation.

38 days (and counting) and 'the brightest minds' STILL have their thumbs up their collective ass.

It's appearing more and more to me that the outcome is intentional - and that the Undocumented Worker in Chief is in on the deal (since he's not doing anything about it, except for the photo op on the beach where he goes, "Oh look! Tar balls!").

Like I said before..............one leak is BADDDDDDDD but, if all the oil wells are united in the form of one BIG lake undergound then the problem will not be of one well but of 2,000 wells that will be coming out of one, or two, or three.

I trully believe that this is THE END AS WE KNOW IT.......I sure as hell hope that I am wrong, at least this time hahahahahahaha.

That's it, combined with bumbling incompetence.

The two guys in the video seem to know what they're doing.

Having everything out in the open would be much better than trying to hide what is happening.

Because it is transparent. :D
