I appreciate some of what he says, but 5000+ years of history says something different. Or am I missing something???

I saw this too. I think these is some bad blood and prick waving that goes on between Zero Hedge and the Market Ticker, and now since we're on the cusp of disaster egos are out in full force.
LOL.
Mark's a smart guy, he just in the deflationary camp, and therefor doesn't like gold.

Now that I've spent more time reading the ticker forum thing, seems like Mark is taking a bunch of much needed rant time. Yeowch!

The funny thing is that the deflationary camp doesn't seem to recognize that precious metals will soar in that environment.
It comes down to counter party risk. Precious metals have none so there will be a premium put on them while the financial assets collapse during the credit contraction/deflation.

All that is scarce and needed will rise in price.

True.... Further deflation will in the end only happen in the last remaining currency... Gold!
In the race to the bottom in terms of fiat currencies, it will sometimes appear as some currencies are in deflation, as they temporarily get in vogue, but most of the time they will inflate..

if you want to understand today's economic world, i recommend the following writers.
Mohammed Rafeeq - colleague of Daryl Bradford Smith, has worked about 25 years in England finance, knows his stuff - bond, currency, equity, & commodity markets. Link is to one hour talk with DBS & a gold anti-trust activist, where Mohammed explains both shorts & naked shorts in the commodity futures markets -
http://www.iamthewitness.com/audio/Bill.Murphy/TFC.SMITH.RAFEEQ.BILL.MURPHY.GATA%2003-04-2010.mp3
plus, Mohammed is knowledgeable about Zionism so he is able to explain economics in its entirety.
Karl Denninger - goes on a lot about the crimes of the bankers, never mentions their ethnicity. does a great job explaining their crimes. Has good familiarity with bond & equity markets. His knowledge of currency markets is limited by his ignorance of commodity markets.
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/
Zero Hedge - names himself after the Brad Pitt character in the movie Fight Club, "Tyler Durden". Has good familiarity with bond, currency, equity, & commodity markets.
http://www.zerohedge.com/
Harvey Organ - works in the precious metals & currency trading part of the financial industry. was instrumental in helping blow the lid off market manipulation in the gold & silver markets at the March 25 CFTC hearings. his Blog is a must-read if you are interested in precious metals investing.
http://harveyorgan.blogspot.com/
Jim Puplava - Has good familiarity with bond, currency, & equity markets. Pretty "mainstream", won't use the term "conspiracy theory", prefers to use the term "game the markets". Does a 3 or 4 hour webcast every week.
http://www.financialsense.com/fsn/main.php
John Mauldin - did a great job explaining credit derivatives & their relation to the economy over about a one year period in 2009. Has good familiarity with bond, currency, & equity markets.

when Denninger goes outside his area of expertise & rants about Gold or Politics, it's entertaining but not educational (except to educate us about his ignorance).
it's good to know what you know & what you don't know. for example, this is what i know about tennis in Mongolia - __________.

Yes I agree wit most all of the above
I think the motives maybe more suspect, i.e. Alex Jones 12 of his 13 advertisers are all jewish
I suspect Puplava would find a similar cast of characters.

only to add, the tyler durden character is the most interesting to me
DBS & Rafeeq are great, honest, etc
Durden seems to get some real whoppers, and current events, way way before anyone else.
