Several weeks ago I made a Huge decision while out at my BOL#2. I decided that I should be living the life that I wanted, where I wanted and by golly I was going to do it. Matter of fact I've set the deadline to be back there by the end of August.
A little background: I made a major life change several years ago by buying and moving to the BOL. It is almost perfect (except for the road) and the nearest community is of like minded people. There are plenty of trees, two springs and a gravity-flow water system, propane stove/oven, wood stove heat, out buildings and a cellar. It sat on the market over-priced for a long long time. A low bid on a really cold (-18) , very snowy (9 inches) day was the final straw for the sellers! They accepted the low cash offer.
I only got to live there one year before circumstances beyond my control took me to the Very Most Depressed City in the Country. It's funny how you can adapt to situations you really haven't planned for. You can improvise and live in someone else's home for convenience/cost. You can do without your own stuff, your own books, home internet, your preps and all things that surround you in your comfort zone. As long as you know you can get back to Your world at some point. But when? How? How much longer? Indecisiveness sets in.
I've always said the major killer of the dead rabbit in the road is that he couldn't make up his mind which way to go!
Reflections on Major Decision-Making:
-Weigh the pros and cons (obviously)
-Dream a little
-Decide how long you can put off a decision (procrastinate)
-Try to avoid the obvious first choice (selfish)
-Make little strides and hit Brick Walls (this is a big sign! ouch)
-Rethink pros and cons
-Check your math on cost analysis
-Evaluate how this will impact other people in your life
-Rethink pros and cons
-Make the Decision
-Set a deadline to accomplish it
-Relief / Peace of Mind
I know this isn't scientific by any means, but who wants to be Road Kill?
So now that I've made a decision, I feel so much better. I got to thinking about all the other little decisions I've made in the last week. For the most part, they have fallen into place because the Huge decision was already made.
Did I skip any steps in the Process? What are your Big Decision steps?
