View Full Version : Should we be stocking up on Seafood?

Especially canned fish. How much longer does the oil leak need to continue before the entire ocean is contaminated? Will the currents eventually spread the pollution to all ocean waters and if they start burning the oil will that increase the problem through toxic fallout???

Considering the "ethics" of all corporations, I won't be surprised to see seafood go down in price. Don't need to send trawlers out and waste diesel and all that...just pick them up and can 'em...

Not to worried about the prepping of seafood, as its not a staple in the Gypsy household. I live on the Upper Great Lakes, and the native fish are more than adequate for my minor fish diet. BTW fresh water fish known as "suckers" are very similar to tuna when properly canned, and trout can be used as a substitute for salmon (cousins) for those who consume them regularly.

Stone crab claws are my favorite food. They're already very expensive and only available for half of the year. I wonder what is going to happen to them after the oil settles.

Im another one that could eat nothing but fish and be perfectly happy. I love fresh, salt water fish. But because of the price and the copious amounts of poisons, I dont eat nearly enough. Tuna is a particular favorite of mine, even the canned, which is a staple lunch in in my house!

I think instead of stocking up on frozen and canned fish, might as well put some of that money into a aquaculter or aquaponics system and just raise your own. At least you could eat home farmed tilapia or the like every day and not worry about OD'ing on heavy metals.

I'm the same, tuna is great. I keep plenty of canned tuna handy for a quick and satisfying sandwich.

Apparently tuna spawn right were the oil spill was, and were actually spawning at that time. This could have wiped out a generation or two of tuna, so stock up on canned tuna now if you are able.

I love seafood though. Nothing like getting a fresh catch, adding some butter and seasoning, and grill her up.

I tried out this brand without the added salt. Although It tasted OK, the bumble bee had a better flavor for some reason. Maybe it was the added salt. ha. I was out of salt, but my next can I will add a little bit and compare again.

* I did not find a "bonafide" source documenting this other that what you hear Kindra Arneson claim above @ the 9/5 "Spill into Washington" rally. But then the Gulf Op (http://www.examiner.com/human-rights-in-national/censored-gulf-news-terror-deep-south-for-agenda-21-pt-iii-disinformation-depopulation) perps and the complicit gummit food/health agencies have been seeking total control of information flowing from their Gulf Op. IE they're still claiming the seafood's safe to eat, and the Gulf safe to swim in. :oo--> Why heck Obama and daughter recently even enjoyed a nice swim in the Gulf themselves,

The "Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars" Gulf chem-warfare op (http://www.examiner.com/human-rights-in-national/censored-gulf-news-terror-deep-south-for-agenda-21-pt-iii-disinformation-depopulation) will eventually (already depending on location) affect crop, animal & seafood life, the water tables, etc. :-X

Seafood of all types has been scarce for over a century. So scarce that it is considered a delicacy, although it used to be just another food when it was more common. I don't know any reason to stock the stuff when there are cheaper healthier meats available.

BP's media event to show Gulf seafood is safe may do little quash concerns of those who are skeptical.

BAYOU LA BATRE, Alabama - One of BP's top officials put his message where his mouth is... or did he?

In an effort to show Gulf seafood is safe, Chief Operating Officer Mike Utsler enjoyed a seafood spread from the Lighthouse Restaurant in Bayou La Batre.

"The seafood in the Gulf of Mexico is the most tested seafood. It is safe. It is sound. I eat it everywhere I go almost everyday," said Utsler during a press conference on Tuesday.

But, the media event, which included a tour of a local processing facility, may do little to quash the concerns of those skeptical of the fresh catch. When News Five asked the restaurant where today's lunch came from we found out it isn't exactly what BP had promoted.

The crab claws, which were bought from a local distributor, were shipped in from Baltimore, Maryland. The mullet was caught in Florida. The oysters came from Texas and Florida. And, the shrimp, though it is local, was caught before the oil spill, then frozen and served up daily.

"Nobody knows what the long term effects are going to be," said a waitress at the restaurant. "If you have stuff that's from before the spill you know it's good or as good as it ever was, so that's what you'd want to be eating," she said.

The owner of the Lighthouse tells us they don't know when they'll start bringing in local, post oil-spill products, and they say BP never asked where their seafood came from.

Sill, BP insists their purpose is still the same-- to restore confidence in Gulf Coast seafood-- even if this event fell a few shrimp short of a cocktail.

"Crude Awakening USA"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_x-b97LX0k

great 15 min documentary, UK produced, about the state of the gulf fishing industry. youtube description:

journeymanpictures | October 25, 2010

October 2010

Are the beaches of America's Gulf Coast really 'open for business' after the BP oil spill? An intensive investigation uncovers a series of cover-ups in place of a long-term fix.

As the oil spillage on Florida beaches is merely covered with sand, jellyfish stained in oil wash ashore and fishermen experience numerous health problems. With Dr Riki Ott comparing these to "problems suffered by workers on the Exxon Valdez disaster", it appears that Obama's assertion that the disastrous BP oil spill fiasco has been resolved is far from the truth. Will the situation ever be rectified and most importantly, what are BP and the US authorities going to do?

Parent alert: New report confirms poisoned Gulf seafood (video) (http://www.examiner.com/human-rights-in-national/parent-alert-new-report-confirms-poisoned-gulf-seafood-video)

Dr. Soto's following words in the Rense interview are possibly the most important that Gulf Coast parents could hear:

"Children are very susceptible, or I would say more susceptible, to the effects of the petroleum derivatives, because of their liver detox capability is less than an adult. Their brain is also developing, and their immune system is developing. So they’re gonna be affected several-fold more than an adult who is being exposed to the same amount of toxin."

"What an astonishing crime this government—yet another astonishing crime this government has committed by clearing the seafood, obviously tainted, to be consumed by people," said Mr. Rense.

"They just don’t care about human life. There’s no other way to define it. They don’t care! It’s all about cover-up, it’s all about money, it’s all about keeping them looking good, and keeping the people in the dark…"
