Let's get real. At some point the corporations will abandon all these rusting wells leaving them leaking forever:

Like these Superfund sites? They will abandon every one then file for bankruptcy. Nobody is gonna remove anything.

the well that is below the surface is sealed in multiple places and the saltwater wont get way down there to rust them out. At least that's what I hope.

I'm relatively sure there is a law requiring the wellbore of any abandoned offshore well be filled with cement, and that this procedure has been closely monitored over the years.

Just like the US Government's Minerals Management Service was "monitoring" Deepwater Horizon.
