I don't know if I'd want to live a life without electricity.. I've been thinking about how to live off the grid...

someday I'd like to have a diesel generator and have the diesel powered by waste cooking oil..

this seems one of the best ways to pursue...

and of course a wind turbine.

The OP link is so good I'm thinking of signing up at that forum.
I've read stuff from there before and it was way too hardcore doom for me.
The speed on that particular thread is pretty much my speed as well, though.

I don't want to live without electricity! When we first started here our only heat was a real old cookstove with a tiny little place to make the fire, damn it was cold in those days, we had light a tv and hotwater heater. No generator.

We had a few solar panels and a 12 volt battery bank, I can't remember how many batteries we had, not many and they were Trojan L-16's, we probably only had about a $ 1500.00 system back then. Slowly but surely we added to the system and bought a generator.

It sucked without alot of power wouldn't want to do that again

I have lived without electricity, 40 miles out in the desert. The silence is incredible. The most impressive thing I remember was the number of batteries the neighbors used - for their portable radios.
