Friday - the start of the weekend, the White House weekly document dump, and of course, bank failures!
We're almost at 80 banks so far this year - even though the FDIC doubled its payroll in 2010, there are hundreds of insolvent banks, and literally thousands at risk.
How many will be shuttered today? As the bonus tie-breaker "the Ruprick" - pick one state/commonwealth/district which will receive the attention of the FDIC at 5 pm local.
Good luck!

I don't know, I've been hearing about "Bank Fail Friday" for a long time now. Last one was spring '09 when Barnacle Bob posted it. I think 2010 is going to be a bad year though....

Regulators shut Seattle-based bank
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Regulators on Friday shut down a bank in Washington, bringing to 82 the number of U.S. bank failures this year.
Seattle-based Washington First International Bank, with $520.9 million in assets and $441.4 million in deposits, was closed by the Washington Department of Financial Institutions, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. as receiver of the failed bank.

Hate you Ponce!
(note this is only a liberal interpretation of "Hate you Chaka" - from the great sci-fi work Deathworld 2 by Harry Harrison)
I only get to lose track of the day of the week when on annual month long holiday in Asia - I wish I was able to be retired and therefore on permanent holiday! (also jealous of the DHL founder for his final years!)
I guess if you do not hold your vacation days, you do not own them! (drat)
