Presently I'm in southwest Florida, right on the Gulf. I think the writing is on the wall and I'm scootin' the hell out of here well before I get herded anywhere by anyone else.

Right now I'm looking at the Lake Marion/Santee Cooper area as it seems to fullfill the basic requirements I'd like to have overall. Anyone with any first hand knowledge of the area?

Hey, so you are going to move then?

Do you really think they are going to do mass evacuations from the gulf region?

You are right in the middle of it, can you give us any insight as to what you observe and hear from the folks that live in that area on a day to day basis?

Zap, at this moment most are oblivious because it's not right in their face at the moment and they get ALL of their info from the MSM and go from there. There are small numbers of people that see what the inevitable outcomes are and are begrudgingly acting accordingly, such as me. I love it here, I worked my ass off to make it down here and now it's going down the toilet, I'm very sad and 10X as pissed but it is what it is.

My "opinion" is that an evac, either voluntary, involuntary or mandated by circumstance is inevitable and I'm not one to react after the fact if at all possible.

There are reports of clean up crews sitting on beaches "waiting" day after day for the oil to come ashore. This I heard from a friend just yesterday.

I'm sorry Libertytree, But it sounds like you are doing the right thing, and you will be ahead of the crowd, just really sux though to have to pull up roots and the life you have worked so hard for.

I've rebuilt it all before and it's really just another page in another chapter of this book we call life. Still sucks though, but it will be ok, I hope.

Libertytree... good for you... the writing is not just on the wall, it is all over the house, inside & out... on the ground in the oceans, in the sky... Let the naysayers laugh, just get the pluck out!

I don't know. If it's really going to get as bad as some of you think it is, SC may not be the best choice. I would consider going west. But (just my opinion), I think you are fine to stay where you are.

Sunshine, where are you at? Why is that particular point of SC not a good choice? Why do you think we should stay here?

Not talking about that any particular part, just that SC is a coastal state. I'm near Raleigh, NC.

I guess, just like Ponce has his intuition about this, I do as well. Not basing it on much but my hunch is this is a false flag, totally blown out of proportion in order to gain something. I hear Obama is calling this the "environmental 9/11" now and how we are going to have to change the way we deal with environmental issues now, just like we had to change the way we deal with terrorists.

Again, I don't trust the media so I'm skeptical about the true extent of oil leaking. I could be totally wrong of course. I guess we all have to do what we feel is best at any given time.

This the one and only time I'm sure that O will agree with me, albeit for different reasons but I believe that the oil spill is a "9/11", in that it was on purpose, a deliberate act by TPTB for whatever goal they hope to achieve.

BTW, the part of SC I'm referring to is quite a ways from the coast with a water source that is stable and plenty of fresh water, fish and game.

Sometimes, or at some point there is NO place left to run but in my mind here is not the place to make a last stand.

The area you're moving to is great country. Gardening, fishing, hunting will all be well. I hope you're used to mosquitos/gnats/humidity. It gets STICKY HOT. Gets pretty cold in the winter, but never any snow. Does barely get cold enough to see flurries maybe once every year or every other year. Weather waffles from Halloween til mid Jan. Halloween is your first shot at the cold, then it will waffle back and forth several times til Christmas (you'll be wearing shorts + tshirt Christmas midday but make sure you have a heavy jacket for the night). Once January rolls in, the waffling stops and it's cold the way it's supposed to be. August heat+humidity is a real bitch.

It's definitely bug-out worthy land for anyone interested in such a thing. Just make sure you have provisions for the squadrons of bugs as well as lots of ice water.

Sounds like other things I've read and a great transitional place coming from the sub-tropical climes of S Florida.

Thanks VP, do you live there presently?

Best to get out before the oil rains start and saturate everything.
One bolt of lightning will set the whole state ablaze!

I really think it's best to get out before the competition begins elsewhere for the jobs, housing etc..etc.. in the areas where the displaced will also be going. Besides your local "FEMA welcome center".

Still no SC people?
