It's considered to be part of the Vatican, though it lies outside the actual boundaries of Vatican City. That may be where the confusion is.

Man, I'd love to go back to Rome. Went there on a whim with another guy I was deployed with to Vicenza. The only things I knew that I was looking at were the Coliseum, St. Peter's Square, and the Sistine Chapel. I got to gaze at The School of Athens by Rafael, and had no idea what I was looking at.

Thanks for the post, incredible European art and history.

Images load very slow for me in firefox and javascript but
I love the zoom, incredible.

This church was once a work of art as well, totally destroyed
and gutted but it inspired the building in Europe of mega
Cathedrals that still stand and are engineering marvels,
marvels of art and history as well. It inspired Christians.
Lot of pictures online searches.

I still haven't had the time to vest through all the halls but the artwork and time invested must have been forever. from the ceilings to the floors everything is intricate, even the caskets and stuff... I don't' even know what its all called or referred to. plenty good stuff right here.
