Guy makes it look so easy. I'm not saying that something like this isn't doable, just that the size of the pipe has to be something like 18"+. The bolts and nuts would have to be huge. (think CD size.) Then I'm personally don't know if the ROV's can get leverage enough to tighten the nuts. It's like working in space, the astronaut has to be anchored to something bigger/heavier than the object he is working on. This BOP is 55' high and weights something like 40 tons.

Concept is valid. Doing it at 5,000 ft below sea level under those pressures would bring up some interesting conditions. Especially the fact that the oil is coming out at 70,000 psi.

And another thing the pipe going up is 1 mile long. Lots of tech snafu's

If they cause any back-pressure, the oil gouges out a bigger channel through the broken pipe 1000+ feet under the BOP.

Already, the ground holding the BOP pipe is being eroded. They are limiting how much they close off the pipe because any restriction accelerates the timing for a complete blow-out.
