Very simple question but one that could have dire consequences.
Should the border be guarded by force of arms?
Pros?
Cons?

I vote yes. I think it may take some drastic measures at the start to stem the flow of crooks into the nation.
I really don't like the idea of a permanent armed presence at the border though - fences that keep people out are also good at keeping people in.

But who are we keeping out? The real enemy is already here.....
Yes, i know, the truth sucks.....

By the time they get around to having enough border guards it will be because they're trying to keep us in, they could give a crap about keeping their cheap labor out.

Armed border guards can both keep immigrants out, but also keep emigrants in.

Even if they are right next door..... this is just like if China were to invade the US, they are "foreigners" plain .and simple.....anything else is only crap on the toast.

Back 25 years ago in Russia, they would shoot a Chinaman first, then ask questions later.

There was never any attempt in the past to secure the US-Mexican border and there may as well never be one.
If there was any intention of doing so, the border would've been secured long ago.
Any proposal is likely just a smokescreen intended to silence any critics.

I voted NO for only one reason, the wording of your question. We have "armed guards" on the border now, useless. what i want to see is the border treated like the NATO/Warsaw Pact border line in the 80s. I want to see the US Military making a type of DMZ, if necessary will towers, Helos, mechanized patrols ,etc. to SECURE that border, not guard it.

OK I get what you're saying. I don't think they have enough border agents, or take it that serious. Hell, if they made it legal to protect the border as a citizen without repercussions, I'd be down there for 2 weeks a year.

Before we worry about our own problems we have to take care of foreing problems..........like Iraq, Afgh, Zionists, Latinos ( but not Cubans hahahah), that what I usually do with money, take care of those on my way and then the road is clear for a happy drive.

I think they should fire all the Border Patrol agents (most of whom are foxes guarding the hen house) and abolish the Border Patrol.
Like you suggest, volunteers could patrol the border at their own expense. I would be willing to do my duty. Just let the volunteers do their duty and there will be no more foreign invasions.
Problem solved. Cost to taxpayers: zero.

the political fallout would be staggering. Notice I said political fallout. They are not reacting to this invasion with any kind of responsible action. The media fallout would be staggering. Note that the media has approved of the invasion thus far.

More like "Effectively" border patrol is already armed. Problem is that if we station 30,000 troops, only 1,000 of them will be doing something. You need to give the other 29,000 something to do or they become a new problem we have to deal with.

What if it were Israel invading the US...oh wait, it's their country. Never mind.

All we have to do is stop providing such a healthy host for the invading parasites.
The problem is not immigration. The problem is entitlement programs. If we stop giving free housing, free food, free health care, free education, we would not have an immigration problem. The bad ones are only coming here for the free ride. The good ones most of us don't mind so much.
But since people are so distracted by illegal immigration and not the reason for illegal immigration sure why the hell not . . . let's put some guys with guns on the borders.
I think volunteers would do a better job than government employees would do at protecting the border.

The bad ones are only coming here for the free ride. Even if we didn't have any of the entitlement programs, the worst of them would come here because they wore out their welcome in Mexico. Many of these people are fugitives from justice or have such a long criminal record that staying in their homeland is inconvenient.
Some people think this can be solved by having law enforcement agencies on both sides exchange information as they supposedly do now but this thinking is naive.
Human actions are caused by motives and third world countries have no motive to disclose the criminal records of their undesirables. They would rather have them come here and send dollars back to Mexico.

I have to vote no. It is cheaper and more cost effective to lay down anti-personnel land mines. They are maintenance free and after a couple failed border crossings the message has been sent and recieved.

right again...gov is NEVER the solution..... just STOP the gov from prosecuting Americans who want/can get the job done.
