NASA Satellite Image of oil along the coastline between Miami and Virginia.

The oil appears grey on the water as it reflects the light.

It’s pouring around the handle now.

THANK YOU for a picture of truth versus the no-fly zone---for the sake of safety, of course.

I don't know...

If that grey was oil it looks like it would be on the east coast beaches now too.

A friend of mine is a dive guide off of Palm Beach. He's a tree hugging hippie, and I asked him what everyone is talking about on the boat, at the docks. (Let me preface by saying that if my head was on fire, he would say it's no big deal, and that I am being a baby for complaining about it. His whole motto is "don't f'in worry about it".)

Anyway . . . first he says "don't f'in worry about it, it's no big deal". I completely expected this of him, which is why I didn't ask him what he thought, I asked him what everyone else thought. He said that lots of people are seeing things in the water, every day. Big blobs, little blobs, sheen, etc. But he insists that these people are just inventing something to see. In his opinion, they are seeing normal conditions and calling it oil volcano related.

Also, I looked all over the NASA site for that same image and could not find it. There were plenty of the gulf, but none of the east coast of Florida. If anyone finds the image in the OP directly on the NASA website, let me know. Link (http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?project=gulfofmexico)

Out side of the gulf oil disaster, NASA has a treasure trove of satellite imagery for all kinds of cool stuff like spawning plankton and Saharan dust clouds across the Atlantic, and fires.

That's news to me and you can see my house from that photo, I've heard nothing about a large wave of oil off the east coast I might be sayin' "You told me so", but I'm calling BS on that photo

Here's a NASA oil photo from 4 days ago, I don't think that amount of oil could travel around the penninsula from the gulf in 4 days, at that rate it'll be in NY in no time at all :D

It is just sheen, a thin layer, or the calm before the storm. :conf:

Am I to believe this oil (sheen or otherwise) rounded the tip of Florida and made its way up the east coast in 1 day!!!??? I think not.

What do you think it is?
And if it isn't oil, speaking only for myself, but possibly for many others, THANK GOD!

If you compare the right hand side of the first image with the left hand side of the second image you'll notice the same Grey mass. My guess is some kind of cloud cover.

So if this isn't sheen from the gulf could you please submit a theory at least?
Certainly.
Tides. there is low and high.
High tide covers more beach and the sand below cannot be seen from space.
Low tide covers less beach and the shallower water allows the sand to be seen through the water from space.

Just a theory but a fairly sound one until times are given for the pics and compared to tide table history.

No need to be sorry. After some more close research it appears for now that you are correct. Though I don't have a answer as to what the gray is, do you?

As stated above, I think it's cloud cover.

I have to agree with undgrd. I've looked through the images on the source http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?subset=USA8.2010166 and I think the image might be misrepresented. It also doesn't jive with the other pics on the site.

There are no news reports of oil off the Miami coast (that I've seen so far) and that will be one of the primary sources of info that the oil is on its way up the eastern seaboard.
