US jobless claims in surprise rise.

Published: Thursday June 17, 2010

New claims for jobless insurance benefits in the United States rose unexpectedly for the second straight week, the government said Thursday on concerns unemployment may derail the economic recovery.

Claims climbed to 472,000 in the week to June 12, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 460,000, the Labor Department said.

Most economists had expected claims to fall to 450,000.

Unemployment stands at nearly 10 percent, posing a major threat to recovery from the most severe recession in decades.

After pointlessly injecting over a trillion dollars of "stimulus" into the economy I think it'll certainly be beneficial to inject even more stimulus so that the economy can finally nosedive once and for all.

Odd, I poured gasoline on the rocks and the fire flared up. Now that the gas has burned off, the rocks are not burning any more ....

- Timothy Geitner & Ben "Helicopter" Bernanke - heard round their campfire last night.

And of course they don't count the people who are still unemployed, but who have run through their unemployment benefits.
