Jumped in beginning at $745. Bought more along the way up, too.

My best silver purchases were made at unbelievable rate of $4.10
Best gold purchases were made at $550
Average though is not that stellar, as I am still accumulating.
k-os, what will you do when you will get filthy rich?
;D
I don't think that's going to happen. I don't need to be filthy rich. I just want to stay whatever I am now. :)

Oh yeah, and almost every time I purchased silver was at a high. I have a couple of oz at $15, a bunch at $18, and even some at $20. I have bad timing with silver. I know it'll be OK long term, but it hurts the ego.

I started buying silver at $7 (half my purchases), then a little at a time up to $16. Average price about $11. I only own SAEs straight from the mint.
Started buying gold at $450 and made staggered purchases up to the last at $890. Average price paid is about $650.
Then, I had my infamous boating accident and lost it all. I'm in therapy now. My psychaitrist suggested that I collect state quarters as a mental salve. It helps a little. Of course, it's not the same: the quarters are crap clad coins! The clinic has siezed my Ted Butler Newsletters and forbidden the mailroom from delivering any more. If I say the name David Morgan the nurse slaps me, hard. Most days, I'll sit alone in a corner of the atrium, drooling, staring into space and muttering repeatedly "where's Izzy? where's Izzy?"

I guess I'm the only one who's payed more than a thousand for an ounce...

ximmy, I made several purchases when gold was over 1000 too.
Just like you I am kicking myself for not taking actions earlier, when I was a timid and indecisive lurker at old GIM when gold was so cheap.
I believe those who make right decisions will be rewarded for their prudence

results are a little shocking (or rather unexpected) to me.
I expected to see more sub $800s
I guess a lot of people used a lot of caution when moving into gold, just like I did. ;D

i recall a GIM thread about gold versus silver ownership. i think it turned out that about 75% of the people that took the poll were more heavily invested in silver, so perhaps you'd find less surprising results with silver? though silver's rollercoaster ride would have an effect on the averages, too.

I bought all of mine before GW Bush assumed the throne.

Nice, I think I'm about 10% higher on my cost average than you on both metals.
