WASHINGTON -- The Homeland Security Department will use unmanned surveillance aircraft and other technological upgrades in its ongoing effort to protect the southern border of the United States.

The department said Wednesday it has obtained Federal Aviation Administration permission to operate unmanned planes along the Texas border and throughout the Gulf Coast region. Customs and Border Protection will base a surveillance drone at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in Texas.

what a perdiciment "we" find ourselves in. On the one hand, the .gov can say "see, see we are doing what you want, we are watching the boarder, we are enacting the laws." On the other hand we open the door to spy planes and drones being "out in the open" as far as them operating over US soil.

Now, the nay sayers cant say nay, because then the gov will say "but I thought you wanted us to be proactive, and this is the cheapest way we can do it."

an endless cycle. The old saying goes "the bueraucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the exanding bueraucracy."
