SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Kellogg and Procter & Gamble, two of the nation's biggest consumer-products companies, scrambled Friday to pull well-known brands from supermarket shelves.

Kellogg Co. /quotes/comstock/13*!k/quotes/nls/k (K 52.61, -0.25, -0.47%) issued a voluntary recall on 28 million boxes of cereal, citing "uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell" that it blamed on package liners.

The recalled brands are Corn Pops, Honey Smacks, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks and were sold nationwide. Affected boxes have the letters "KN" printed before expiration dates, which range from March 26, 2011 through June 22, 2011.

Potential for serious health problems is low, Kellogg said, but some consumers could be sensitive to the affected product's smell and flavor. A Kellogg spokesman said a few customers have experienced nausea and diarrhea.

Proctor & Gamble /quotes/comstock/13*!pg/quotes/nls/pg (PG 60.37, -0.50, -0.82%) Co. recalled about 35,000 bottles of Scope mouthwash, citing faulty child-resistant caps. One liter size Original Mint and Peppermint mouthwash bottles with a number "4" printed on the bottom are affected.

The bottles lack the statement, "This package for households without young children." Mouthwash contains ethyl alcohol, a toxic substance that can be fatal if ingested by children. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The bottles were distributed nationwide between January and June.

By midday Friday, Proctor & Gamble's shares were down at least 0.90% $60.32. Kellogg's shares were down 0.61% to $52.54.

President 0bama has already insisted that he will put his boot on the necks of these exploiters of the proletariat masses and will soon find some more ass to kick.

P&G and Kellogg have already rolled onto their backs in submission - offering to create a $40 billion fund to help those affected re-elect Democrats.

On a similar note, citing the imminent hurricane, 0bama has moved to nationalize the BP leases point out that contamination of the beaches exceeds the net worth of the company and it is "too big to fail". Shareholders will not be compensated for losses, but the soon-to-be unionized oil workers look forward to a new day on the rigs.

Also, Tylenol continues to expand their recall.

I have one of the recalled products, although it's a different lot number, but...

Why on earth would the owners of the company that caused this spill be "compensated"? You do realize that the shareholders are the owners of the company, and they are responsible for hiring competent management.

The owners failed to hire competent management, that incompetent management went out and broke the earth. The owners and management of the company should all lose.
