Holy cow.
Much of the Gulf coast will never be the same, ever.

I can only handle so much of that stuff, I hate conflict.
But I got a kick out of pic #40, the dude eating doughnuts in the burned-out police car!! :D
I'm thinking you posted on the wrong thread.

It pains me to see that beautiful coast line destroyed............

I worked on the naval base there back in '95. I remember the white beaches and the fishing. I am sad to see this. It will never be the same in my lifetime. I'm sure nature will recover in sixty years or so. Till then the human and ecological cost will be uncalculable.

So, guys are cleaning the beach by hand every day? I can see how they could do it, for the white-sands tourist part... but isn't there oil washing up on the other hundreds of miles of coastline?

Absolutely heartbreaking. I am not sure which is worse - if you've been there before, or if you haven't ever been there.
Is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

It's saddening to see such a beautiful part of nature devastated and untouchable for decades into the future.
A priceless way will remain toxic for decades and I'm sure decades later some people will still remain skeptical before even approaching the waters.
