A couple of practical eKit items, these both happen to be for your car.
I use them now, and I'm not even close to an evacuation need.

However, reading about the snail's pace evac from Houston northward back during Katrina, and the concerns over cars overheating fleeing the GoM, I have a suggestion for those of you so concerned.

I'll put one suggestion in each of my next two posts. I encourage others as well.

This is sold in NAPA nationwide. It is called "NAPA KOOL"

Now, some anecdotal info:

I've made good friends with the guy who installs new short blocks for local car repair dealers in my area. And pulls, installs AND re-hangs all the stuff for a flat $200. EVERYONE here loves his work.

Anyhow, when he was younger, he stumbled upon this particular product when he was a circle burner driver. He'd keep going when all the rest were in the pit. So using it made him money.

It gets hot around here and stays hot around here. I've been using this product for 5 years, and top it off ever 12 months. I drive a V-8, and am able to idle this puppy--in the sun--for over 1 hour and still keep my a/c on, windows rolled up, and temp in normal range according to the idiot lights on my dash.

Comes 4 to a case. It is NOT to be used if you use carboxylate based coolants!!!! ONLY Ethylene or Propylene based antifreeze/coolants. You MAY have to ask for it, but your NAPA dealer will get it in within 1 week max!!! Beat the crowd out of town and go get some NOW!

If you're stuck in bumper to bumper, you'll at least have options, okay, guys?

This is besides the mandatory DUCT TAPE...get the cloth backed kind and not the cheeeeeeeap stuff!!! ;D

If you have any vision of ever needing to evacuate from your current home area, you might as well stock what you will need to avoid needless pain and suffering:

You need to LEAVE NOW. Relocate to where you will be safe, before the disaster comes. Katrina was the wake-up call, but millions went back to sleep. Next time, it won't be as fun. It will be deadly.

There is no excuse for delaying what you know you must do.
