View Full Version : I finally scored Rifleman!

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

I did it! At the end of my third Appleseed Project event, I scored high enough to qualify as Rifleman. Now, after NOOB and his friend's scores, I am quite humbled to tell you my score, but such is life . . . I scored 211, on the second to last AQT of the last day. (A score of 210 qualifies as Rifleman, and my previous highest was 209). These were steamy hot and rainy days, and we all had a difficult time keeping our eye protection and scopes from fogging.

I had 206, 202, 205 (and a few that were just under 200) and one time I thought I had it, but I just had really bad math skills. That was disappointing, not to mention embarrassing. But finally, I did it!

On the drive home, I was able to see at least 6 different city's fireworks displays. There's no other way I would have rather spent this Independence Day.

Well 211 in the rain sure is something to crow about. Probably could shoot 230 on a clear dry day!

Congrats, and a happy forth to you!

Way to go K-os... you're fast becoming a GSUS super star. Like Annie Oakley without the fame and fortune. :D

In fact, Annie lived for a while in Florida too, just like you. :)

Congrats K-OS. Quite an achievement, btw 211 is code for robbery. Maybe that's a sign that you are qualified to rob the gov and protect the people. I like it. ;D

Congrats K-Os!!!! What, no call, no email, no "hey I finaly got it!"??? I feel left out. :-[ Sorry I missed shooting with yall today, just wasnt in the cards. Maybe next month!

Anywho, Im happy for ya, I really am. I know how bad you wanted it, and how hard you worked for it. Even dragging me out in 95 degree weather, with 100% humidity and no shade, only to find out the quiet ammo wasnt quiet enough! :P

Maybe we can head down to pops some time this week if the rain clears up and get a few more rounds off ;)

I sometimes get a bit squeamish when I read threads here about shooting. I'm sure you're quite responsible K-os, and will always handle a firearm as if loaded.

Others I'm not so sure of!

They make you use subsonic ammo down at Pops? What is this world coming to?

.................

k-os 211 using a 10/22 with quiet ammo was great like I said last night. No doubt you would shoot 240-250 with a well sighted AR.

Congratulations K-os. If the shtf I would welcome you by my side.

As far as score-- 211 is great. The only reason my buddy and me scored high was because we practiced for a year between appleseeds. A year from now you will out shoot me easy.

Alright guys, who is gonna be the next gsus rifleman?

No, you can use real ammo at pops. We were shooting in K-os' back yard last weekend for practice. ;D

:lies:

I am waiting for a public apology since by now you would have checked your voice mail, and you'd know that I called you Sunday night, just as I left Pops, and long before I posted the original message. Pllttth. :plll

There are two other ranges out west of me in Okee and one on the Hooker Highway (love that name), but that's a Sheriff's range and it's only open 1 day a month to the public. We should try them too.

I'll tell you what . . . the second time I ever shot a rifle was at my first Appleseed event. (The first time was a week or so before that at an indoor range with Heimdhal.) I was so nervous about the safe handling of my rifle, and even more so about others around me safely handling theirs.

The Appleseed Project is perfect for someone like you. Safety is absolutely number one. Because of their very strict safety rules and procedures, my mind was at ease within an hour (at least about safety).

Excellent question, zusn. I wonder how many GSUSers have their rifleman patch. I know there are a couple of guys interested in attending an Appleseed Project Shoot.

I am going to continue to attend different events in Florida, or wherever I am at the time. I have met so many cool people (attendees and volunteers) at these things, it's a great social outlet for me.

So, who's next?

Most of the shoot is at 25 meters, and we're aiming at 1 inch squares, or the AQT (Army Qualifying Test) which has shapes of a man's upper body simulated for 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m.

Later on the second day, you can choose to do "known distance", and go out further to 100 yards (or however far that range will allow). I haven't done that yet, but I will next time.

No, Heimdhal and I tried shooting some quiet ammo at my house one day. It wasn't quiet enough, unfortunately. :'(

Well, I had a new titanium trigger installed on Sunday by a gunsmith who was volunteering at the event. It is unbelievable what a difference it makes, and I think after getting used to it, my score will certainly go up. I am not sure about that high, but I appreciate your confidence in me! ;D

Now you've got to attend an Appleseed Project event in your neck of the woods. I think you would benefit greatly, and meet some nice people too. You might find that there are like-minded people within driving distance of you. ;)

I called Pop's and asked them for a copy of your targets.
A guy named Pete told me your rifle is not sighted in yet and you were consistantly shooting low. He said this problem is common with a lot of women shooters.
Maybe you need some help adjusting your sights?

Congrats. I haven't been to an Appleseed event yet, but I would like to go, I have heard a lot of good things about them. I love to shoot and do so year round. I got this some years ago.

For you folks that have not tried the appleseed project, go to there website and look at the targets.
When you tell people the target is at 25 yards they act like that should be easy. It's not easy.

Congrats again K-os.

Its not just about shooting either. Seems to me to be a group of liberty minded individuals. Its nice to see other people that value liberty.
