It's somewhat interesting, but when people start spouting off about H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) etc.. and this oil spill it tends to discredit them in my opinion.
I know a little something about crude and I can tell you H2S is something to take seriously, but not all crudes have high H2S content and this crude seeping out in the gulf is a light sweet crude which to my understanding had little to no H2S.
In high concentrations of H2S a simple respirator will do nothing. You have to use SCBAs or a full supplied air system.
Then he mentions that the guys on the rig were given "gas masks". What the heck is that supposed to mean? Anyone working in or around crude oil should have a respirator anyway... I would imagine on rigs they would have SCBAs at the ready anyhow.. Seems to me that this is just a bunch of fear mongering.
He can't even pronounce Toluene... It's Tol-U-ene.. Sheesh.. ;)

one guy says one thing the next guy says another thing The truth is out there somewhere!
what is that old saying:
Out of chaos comes order
Heh, seriously tho.. I have a H2S detector that I keep with me everyday for work and it's on my hard hat all the time.. If you listened to him you would think there was lethal amounts of H2S floating around all over the land around the Gulf Coast.. I can tell you with great certainty there is not.
Is it possible there may be pockets somewhere offshore? I suppose.. But if there were you would have quick multiple deaths for anyone who encountered these pockets.
H2S Exposure is gauged in Parts Per Million.. This guy is talking about Parts Per Billion... See the exposure info below:
1 ppm: Can be smelled. or to put it another way, 1 second in 13 days. Not a lot of room for error.
10 ppm: Occupational Exposure Limit, for 8 hours: At very low concentrations of less than 10-100 ppm, it gives off unpleasant odour - like to rotten eggs. "the threshold limit".
15 ppm: Occupational Exposure Limit, allowable for 15 minutes of exposure.
20 ppm: Occupational Exposure Limit, At this level workers must wear appropriate breathing apparatus.
The limits here are set in Canada and conform very much to many other countries
100 ppm: the gas kills the sense of smell in 3-15 minutes and will cause you to cough or your eyes to water, possible headache, nausea, throat irritation.
Note~ Smell is only a temporary warning. Do not rely on your nose.
200 ppm: your eyes and throat will begin to burn. and you will get Headaches. Sense of smell lost rapidly.
300 ppm: Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health level. Positive pressure breathing apparatus required.
500 ppm: Loss of reasoning and balance. Respiratory disturbances in 2 to 15 minutes.
700 ppm: Immediate unconsciousness. Death will result if not rescued ASP.
1000 ppm: Immediate unconsciousness. Causes seizures, loss of control of bowel and bladder. Breathing will stop and death will result if not rescued promptly. Immediate resuscitation needed.

Ok, since these guys are talking parts per BILLION.. Let's put this into real perspective..
Noory said the highest levels were 1142 parts per BILLION.
In real talk that would be 1 PPM... Which is nothing.. It's just scare speak.. It's like when they talk about gallons instead of barrels in order to scare people with a big number.. Bleh.. Fear mongering at it's height.
I have worked and dealt with cargoes that were as high as 20,000 PPM. That is something to take seriously.. 1 PPM? Sheesh get real.. Noory

He says we wont let other countries come help cause they will all die at sea... I believe it is due to maritime laws not allowing any ships not built and manned by the US (circa 1956?). The president can repeal that law at any time with the stroke of a pen. There are a few more inconsistencies that are pure fear mongering.
He is the master of it all and is not open to any ideas that don't come out of his own mouth... I can't stand experts that are wrong. Interesting none the less.

Well, Hoagland is an Obama supporter or at least he pretends to be.. There is a real problem in this oil spill, but fear mongering people with H2S etc.. Telling people they need to buy an ozone machine because somewhere someone measured 1PPM of H2S is absolutely ridiculous.
