Some of George's columns are better than others. Today is one of those worth reading. click me (http://www.urbansurvival.com/week.htm)

Next, you need a massive public works effort to build out new infrastructure of all kinds so that populations can grow into the infrastructure so created. This (at least short term) requires a LOT more deficit spending which no one seems willing to do. What I'd suggest, immodestly perhaps, is that if we want to raise global levels above poverty, we need a global attack on hunger, illiteracy, and health issues.

Is he serious? ::)

I was wondering the same thing when I read that.

He spent a lot of time in California I think. And is still in the early stages of waking up, so sometimes he slides back into commieland.

What I was most interested in was his comparison to the way China became isolationist, and how he related it to Obama shutting down the internet.

He was talking about how we as a nation don't have a national goal anymore, or at least that is the way I read it. The examples he gave as big expansions that helped our country grow and prosper. all happened when there was room to grow. I am not sure we have that now, unless someone finds a way to harness the deserts.

And how do you come up with a national goal for a nation of people that doesn't have a whole lot in common with each other anymore?

I would argue that the term "national goal" is a misnomer. There is no such thing as a national goal, just individual's personal goals who happen to hold a lot of power over other individuals. So his call for new national goals are simply his personal goals he'd like to impose on the rest of us. The whole concept of overbuilding infrastructure so we can grow into it is very bad economics.

George used to offer homespun observations, but now he only has flippant opinions. I think his lack of sleep is beginning to show, which is probably a result of too many projects going at one time.

Agreed. I used to support him by giving him his yearly subscription fee. He started losing it about 3 years ago.

I can no longer read his drivel.
