2 police officers wounded in shooting at Burbank Kmart
Two police officers were shot while responding to reports of a shoplifter at a Burbank Kmart, a law enforcement source told The Times.
[Updated at 1:47 p.m.: The source said the incident occurred while the officers were escorting a petty theft suspect out of the store. It's unclear whether the suspect opened fire with a gun he had or took one of the officers' weapons.
The officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is in custody, but it's not clear if he was also shot. Police are checking all customers at the Kmart before they exit. The parking lot is closed off, so customers are being shuttled out of the area without their cars.]
The shooting occurred after noon at a store on San Fernando Boulevard. The Burbank Leader reported that a Burbank police officer was shot, possibly in one of his hands and a leg.
A handgun was found on the ground in front of the store, and an officer detained a man in handcuffs, according to the News-Press. Officers are closing off surrounding streets as they investigate the scene and gather evidence.

Suddenly, from inside the store, “shots were fired and police started pouring in†to the parking lot, said Scott Fraser, a clerk at a UPS store across a parking lot from the Kmart store. “We heard six or seven shots,†believed to be coming from police officers.
Three ambulances also arrived, taking away at least one man.
Paramedics seemed to work methodically on the man, who sat on a stretcher before he was taken away in an ambulance, followed by a police car.]
Details about the shooting are still unclear. It's unknown how many people may have been hit.
