View Full Version : THE TOILET PAPER SHORTAGE OF 1973.

This is a REAL GOOD EXAMPLE as to why WHTSTF in the US will happen.....it will not be what will happen but rather what people will make happen. Guarding my 1,850 rolls of tp with my life ;D
================================================== =======================

THE TOILET PAPER SHORTAGE OF 1973.

If anyone can remember, the early 70’s everything was in short supply especially oil. When Americans heard the word shortage, they would jump out and purchase these items since they knew what it was like standing in line to get gasoline for their cars.

Well, whether you believe it or not, there was a toilet paper shortage in the United States in 1973. The entire episode started with a Johnny Carson Tonight Show monologue. On December 19, 1973, the writers for the show had heard earlier the federal government was falling behind in getting bids to supply toilet paper and that it might be possible that in a few months the United States could face a shortage of toilet tissue. They took the words of this Wisconsin congressional representative, Harold Froehlich and decided to add a joke for Carson for the evening show.

Carson did in fact use the joke in a monologue stating, "You know what's disappearing from the supermarket shelves? Toilet paper. There's an acute shortage of toilet paper in the United States."

Much to the amazement of not only the show but of toilet paper factories across America, 20 million people that watched the Carson show that evening ran out in the morning and bought as much toilet paper as they could carry. By noon on December 20, 1973, practically every store in America was out of stock. Many of the stores tried to ration this valuable paper but they could not keep up with the demand no matter what they did.

A few nights later, Johnny Carson explained there was no shortage and he apologized to his viewers. However, this did not help with the scare. As soon as people noticed the empty shelves, they wanted this paper even more.

It took a total of three long and grueling weeks to get the shelves stocked again and finally the shortage was over.

Well Mr. M..........not matter what they buy at the end they will eat it......I packed 60 five gallons plastic containers in the past three days and ten more just now, another 100 more, or so, to go.

Vienna sousage, Chili and rice are what I like the most but having the money to do so I bought different kinds of food in large quantities..... I like sugar the most so that "comfort" food like donuts (I should have been a cop hahahahahaha) and so on will be a problem........hard candy and chocolate stuff in vaccum bags and then into the pail.

A sleeping bag also went into one of my five gallons and the same for night vision, binoculars, compasses, GPS, first aid, knife and "other goodies"......most of this is going up the hill to one of my "hide away" and will keep me out of everyones eyes.

I placed five rolls of tp into one of this containers and left it submerge overnight in water....everything bone dry the next day........the rubber seal works just great.

Sorry, I don't. I checked GS-US occasionally during my "absence," but missed that.

Is that the Marcal stuff Staples usually has?

Yes, kind of small rolls but for the price and the free shipping is worth it......I am using that one now and saving the "Sharmin" to use for WTSHTF hahahahaahaha.

Just shows you the power of a rumor. Remember last spring ('09) with the rice shortages/rationing? Got worse before it got better. Also got more expensive of course.

There was also an Ice Shortage all through out the sixties and seventies. Not everywhere, just our house. For some dam reason my parents wouldn't let us put ice in our drinks. In the summer we were allowed maybe a cube or two but that was it. A full glass of ice was only a dream.

Actually what I was trying to start was something related how the people will make the situation worse by their action...after the food at the stores are gone they they will be on the look out for anything that they can steal..........in Cuba any rumors of a truck bringing in food would have the people waiting in line 12 hours before the stores open.

Like I said before........if people were to get organised and work together everything would be OK, but this is America where the "I" have taken the place of the "we".

Right now I am watching a film (or video) of how the Zionists took over Russia and the millions of people that they killed in order to have everyone fear them..........in the Ukraine alone they killed 12 millions between 1928 and 1934...of hunger........will post the link later, one hour long film.

I have decided that the foreign troops that will come to the US will be to impose the laws of the ruling class........but first......they have to take our guns away.........beware.

Many of you think that I am full of it........I would like it to be so........but I can't hide the truth.

There's currently an ice shortage on the East Coast:

Hi all; a most important thread. I hope that you all appreciate Ponce’s sharing his knowledge and wisdom with you. He is not bragging; quite the contrary. He is exposing himself in order to encourage you to get as prepped as wisely and quickly as possible. I know there is a lot of bitching and moaning that it is hard and expensive. You are not alone; I’m also limited by finances and time and energy.

This toilet paper panic is laughable but shows what the general population will do if they think they will be deprived of anything in their spoiled poodle lifestyles. Poop paper ! Imagine that; we can live without it. But what goes in at the other end ? Food. Can’t live without that.

In the prep section where I am writing the bartering and horse trading thread, I have been emphasizing that the most important thing at this time in history is NOT gold and silver but food and all it entails.

As Ponce’s quote says “If you don’t hold it, you don’t own it”, if you hold gold and silver you can’t eat it although you hold it in your hands. There is an intermediary, the other person you will have to deal with, the one holding food for sale or barter. Ponce told me of a story he read where things were so bad (someplace like Cambodia when Pol Pot was in power) that a can of tuna was traded for an ounce of gold. Let that sink in for a while….

Done thinking ? Good. Because whatever “it” is, you had better have previously thoroughly through what you will do with this “it”. For you see, there are many scenarios that could be played out as we go into the future. And how well prepared you are for these scenarios will determine your odds of survival. Hey, nobody is entirely safe in this world. It’s a crapshoot. We who prep should know that in our endeavor to increase our odds.

Remember the last few years when we were prepping and things didn’t look so bad ? And we went about our lives while adding to our preps as we could get around to it ? I sure do. Prepping was a sideline; almost a hobby that we could forget about for a time until something we read reawakened our need to plan for the future.

Well, today we stand at the threshold of some pretty grim prospects. Don’t we ?

This oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is in the process of destroying not only the coastlands but also much of the agricultural areas when a hurricane spreads the mess. Only time will tell how damaging the future will be. It is my belief that we have only a short time until the general public becomes aware of the dangers. So if you thought the toilet paper shortage or the more recent rice shortage were something, it takes little to imagine what a food shortage would be like.

If you think the oilcano will somehow be plugged, you can go on about your business. Sure, there will be serious damage to our way of life even if it gets plugged in August by the “relief wells”. But as for me and my family, we are preparing for the worst. And if it doesn’t happen, we will still be in a better position that we would have if we had ignored the dangers. Do you think food will get cheaper in the future ? I call that a win-win in a losing situation. In other words, a no brainer.

I think August will be the point of recognition for the American people. If the oilcano is not plugged, be prepared for their reactions. There are people who make things happen, people who let things happen and people who wonder what happened. We know in which category most Americans think. Question is, are you in the first category or the second ? Because if you are in the second category, you will lose much potential to protect yourself. Foreknowledge is a powerful thing but ONLY if you Act.

Here is an article that Ponce turned me onto; we both hard copied it for future reference. And Ponce rarely hard copies anything. So it must have been a real shocker, even to Ponce.

Warning. Do not read this unless you are prepared to face the worst case scenario.

There. Was that so bad ? You’re damn right, it WAS so bad. Don’t shoot me; I’m just the messenger.

Best wishes,

agnut

P.S. Ponce and I are NOT fear mongers; we are prep mongers. We hope that our writings will be taken in the spirit of concern for others. We have no hidden agenda. Isn’t that obvious ?

P.P.S. I recommend getting together a library of good books, both for knowledge and entertainment. I have hundreds of books accumulated through the years. I recently finished The Letters Of Mozart and am in the middle of rereading The Creature From Jekyll Island. Literally millions of used books are available in thrift stores, garage and estate sales, and on the internet ( ABEBooks.com for instance ) for a fraction of their new prices. Who knows, maybe without all the movies and internet, people will go back to reading and using their own imagination rather than the zombie programming being fed to them by the media. To think for yourself is not unthinkable.

Ponce must have missed the last sentence of that article:

A fundamental tenet of preparedness is cool headed planning. We can not afford wide-eyed optimistic sentimentalism. However we do not need wild-eyed hysteria, either.

:oo-->

Well mi amigo Book, at this time I am sitting in my first class coach train looking out the window while drinking my Coke, all that I see are little people running around like worms in a can not knowing what to do next..........me with a "wild-eyed hysteria"?????, if I was not ready and relaxed then how come I spend so much time here?, all that I doing is waiting for the bomb (which ever one comes first) to drop.

Like my dear friend Agnut says......I don't write about what others have or have done but about what I have done and the message is.......if a dumb little Cuban refugee with a 10th grade education can do it then why can't you do the same?

If any of you think that I am lying then ask those from the old GIM about all the pictures or my preps that I posted under the tittle of "This Is Ponce"......besides, Agnut knows me in person and Randy and wife visited me and have seen that everything that I posted is the truth.......they even saw my 1,850 rolls of tp covering one wall of my four car garage.

What's more, IF ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL TELLS ME TO STOP POSTING HERE I WILL DO SO RIGHT AWAY, except for the THREE ZIONISTS that are pretending to be goys........I know who your are.

The way that I see it......you are living in MY WORLD not me in yours, that's how sure I am of myself.

Reading GIM for 2 years made me step up my preping. and I am glad for that.

Sometimes it seems that some folks that have spent many years living just to prep and prep some more.
It seems they kinda Want something bad to happen. To kinda Justify all there hard work.

Sometimes it looks like the hardcore preppers cant wait for the STHTF and they post everything they can get there hands on that makes it look like the end is near.

I don't know...I can't really explain what i am thinking and feeling...
Maybe i shouldn't even post this....but what the heck.
