ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - One 37-year-old man shot and killed five individuals as well as injured four others in a mass shooting late Monday morning.
According to police, the shooter entered the Emcore Corporation building late Monday morning and started to shoot. When police arrived at 9:29 a.m., they found multiple people injured from gunshot wounds. Two people were found dead on the scene preliminarily, four others were found injured. Two of those individuals are in stable condition and two are still in emergency care.
After searching the building more extensively, police found three more people dead from gunshot wounds as well as a person they believe was the shooter. The shooter had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooter was a former employee of Emcore, at least one previous instance of domestic violence, though it was not in the city of Albuquerque.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene. Police have shut down the traffic light at Central Avenue at Eubank Boulevard and are manually directing traffic.
Several streets are closed nearby, so police caution everyone to avoid the area. Sandia National Laboratories and Manzano Mesa Elementary are on lockdown. There is a summer program going on at Manzano Mesa Elementary currently.
One suspect is described as a man wearing all black with black hair. He was last seen running east through a nearby mesa.
The conditions of the shooting victims are unknown at this time. Many ambulances are rushing to the scene.
This story will be updated as more details become available.
