A Tale of Two Muddy Oil Volcanoes - 2006 Indonesia & 2010 Gulf of Mexico *OMINOUS PARALLELS*

Mud eruption 'caused by drilling' headlines a BBC report of 2008, two years after a drilling company was found negligent in drilling for gas and oil. The amount of material that is still spewing out of the well would fill 50 olympic sized swimming pools EACH DAY. This has been happening every day for four years, with no end in sight. The Lusi mud volcano may be active for decades, some believe.

After debating new evidence at a conference in South Africa, most geologists voted drilling as the cause.
All efforts to stem the flow have failed - including a network of dams; channelling into the sea; and an ambitious plan to plug the crater with concrete balls.
In June 2008 Prof Davies published a paper in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, in which he concluded with "99% certainty" that Lapindo's drilling caused the mudflow.
He argues that the 2,500m-deep bore hole ruptured limestone rock, containing pressurised water. As the lower part of the borehole was not protected by casing, this forced water and mud into the rocks surrounding the well.
At the conference, he produced fresh records of the changes in pressure in the 24 hours leading up to Lusi's eruption.
The pressure plots were introduced by drilling engineer Susila Lusiaga, who works with the Indonesian police investigation team.
"The pressure in the well went way beyond what it could tolerate... and it triggered the mud volcano," he said.
The new records "provide a compelling tape recording of the well as it started to leak," said Prof Davies.
"This is the data we wanted to get out - the data I have never been able to show before.
"It clearly shows that the well failed. And this failure was the driver for a the breakdown of the rocks - it was the trigger for the mud volcano."

Questions arise:
1- If no one has been able to find a way to stop an oil well volcano ABOVE GROUND for four years, how could a well gone amok one mile under the sea be capped anytime soon?
2- The Lusi incident occurred four years ago. Did the petroleum drillers learn nothing from this incident...or did they learn everything from it?
Shouldn't deep earth tomography technology been utilized before BP embarked upon unchartered frontiers in oil well drilling? Or, did they know exactly into what they were drilling, and the consequences of these actions?

This stuff is so toxic combined... not the oil or dispersants alone. ..."
