It could be that he was offended at being referred to as a 'gookophile' on the Chinese apple juice thread, but that's just a guess.

I doubt that was it (thanks, Philo! ::) ) - Skirnir seemed to have felt most of us were beneath him. He really got worked up in the circumcision thread.
I'll miss him, despite the long way he has to go before becoming a fully-mature adult.

As for Skirnir leaving, I do not know why he deleted his GSUS account.

Skirnir is sharp and it is a shame he took it all to heart. Maybe He's just going through a tough time right now. Everyone gets a little flaky now and then. Maybe He will come back. He did use some excellent words. Big words are great. Language should be voluptuous, like a well rounded woman, exciting and full of meaning and worthy of exploration. If you don't know a word, look it up. It's fun. He made me look up a couple.

I don't mind other people's vocabulary on the intertubes so long as the correct message is communicated. Now, I AM a bit off and I don't take insult to your generalization but I will tell you that the vocabulary I present on the interwebs is precisely the same vocabulary I use in person. Words have a purpose and sometimes the right word is just about the only word for the occasion unless you like typing 1400% more words to spell it out for someone who doesn't command the English language so well. Vocabulary is about efficiency in communication and many times a single "$50 word" is apropos. Additionally, I select certain words to convey colloquial context, which I also do IRL.

Pictures are great until your source URL moves or goes away. Additionally, archival of a forum generally precludes the pictures. Finally, many people, such as myself, often browse on non-traditional devices and we don't see the pictures. Hell, our own forum software here is configured to not deliver the pictures in a thread when delivered over WAP (despite requests for configurable options).
So, I would agree with your assertion that sometimes it gets the job done because many times it simply doesn't.

I am the same way, except it's actually difficult for me make a post without spelling errors. I tend to transpose letters around a lot, some minor form of dyslexia probably. I admire the folks that can express themselves through big words, as I enjoy looking them up and learning. I especially admire the folks that use pictures to expresss their message (book especially), very sharp individuals. There's a lot of very smart people on this forum.

I have no problem with "$50 words".I do have a problem when people try to use them(NOT Skinr BTW) to try and kill an opinion or someones credibility because another doesnt use them, or mispells.

First, the account was deleted out of frustration, and that I did not wish to say things which would be regretted later. This came into play as circumcision touches upon several things (and people) that I hate.
Second, I derived little benefit from posting. Little that is useful was being disseminated. Instead, many arguments emerged via emphasis wherein arguments which are the most emphatic prevail.
Third, my world-view is an isolate, especially in the philosophical realm. If nothing else, if two people have a different epistemology, there is no way that anything will come to fruition simply on account that they will never work from the same observations. Likewise regarding definitions; one can make a statement, and another can attempt to contradict it simply by repeating it, by changing the definition of a word.
Fourth, I sought to escape the shadow of the past, from which one cannot escape. Some people suck at running message boards, I am one of them.
I reopened the account because the are some with whom I wish to be in contact since the BullionDirect forum disabled private messaging. I will keep any future posts confined to the precious metals section, and will not reply to this post.

Don't reply, but start a thread on epistimology if you think it will be of value. Epistimology is a very important part of communication.

Sometimes it can be a good thing to take a break from GSUS to recharge the batteries. No one should feel obligated to post on GSUS if they do not want to. You just have to do what is in your best interest. If taking a break from GSUS is in your best interest and you think that it will help you to take a break from GSUS, then you should do so.
