I've created this thread in order to provide a reference for precious metal content of various nations' coinage. Please add to this thread any information you might have on metal content of various nations' coinage. I'll add your post information to this top post, so there will be a "one-stop" place to look.


PM Content of Coins, by Country and Date Range

Canada

Dimes
Dime (Pre-1920) - 92.5% Silver
Dime (1920-1966) - 80% Silver
Dime (1967) - 50% or 80% Silver (Almost impossible to test and differentiate)
Dime (1968 ) - 50% Silver or No PM Content (Use magnet to test, Silver dimes will not stick to magnet)
Dime (1969-Present) - No PM Content

Quarters
Quarter (Pre-1920) - 92.5% Silver
Quarter (1920-1966) - 80% Silver

some of the Ikes (Unc's or "Blue Ikes") were also 40%, not just the proofs

And of course some of the mint-issue sets of various coinage now are 90% Ag. don't know if you want to get into listing those though, might as well throw the GAE's in there...

At a fist glance, I believe that the Canadian Dollars (1920 1958-1967) are 60% (.600) Silver.

The Kennedy Half Dollars in Current U.S.Mint SILVER Proof Sets are 90% (as are the quarters and dimes).
