Have you ever looked at a domain name with the word "gold" in it ?

Jesus, they're all taken !

http://www.crocgold.com/

coldgold.com

oldgold.com

etc. etc.

"moldgold.com is already taken"

BUT - "moldygold.com is available! Just $10.69*/yr" ;D

Jesus, the entire human language has been hijacked.

Massive Corporation swoop up domains by the thousands....in hoping to 'cash in' on them in the future sometime.

Cyber Speculation is perfectly legal, but cyber squatting is not.

So swooping in and buying www.pepsi.com they'll take that from you under court order. Buy you can speculate and buy www.soda.com no problem.

And I'm not surprised everything gold is taken.

www.goldenfools.com is still available : )

I actually found one I like. I could use it as a blog or even a business in the next few years.

Anyone have any tips to reserving a name. Does the company retain ownership? If you don't buy years now, does it cost to much to extend it later (assuming it does not make significant money)?

i've used 3 different registrars (Network Solutions, Domain Direct/ Hover, GoDaddy). i would have to say GoDaddy is the best. Domain Direct used to be good, but they started to suck, and then got bought by Hover, which sucked even more.

for a host, i think
http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/

is a good option for free hosting. they will host Flash content. the trick is getting around the ads so visitors don't have to look at them.

you can set a target in your domain forwarding, e.g. tell it to forward to

http://greatgold.angelfire.com/index.html#start

and have the target named "start" a half-page down. when somebody enters the domain name, it will automatically scroll down to the target named "#start" - so nobody sees the ads.
