Notice the Cheesy "Retail" price $100 higher to do what, exactly ?

Persuade a buyer that they're getting a good deal because they're buying it for $100 under retail - with a free little

Hot Item <---- OOOOOHHHH ! Hot Item !

Somehow I have a feeling they are reaching out to a slightly different crowd with this website.

The cheesiness is one thing, moving the buy price off the page is another thing I don't like. Being able to see the buy-sell spread was one of the things that made APMex good - until they re-designed their website.

Wow! Thanks for posting that. It has been about 2 years ago since I last bought anything from APMEX. The "Hot Item" indicator is different. I do not remember seeing that on the old APMEX website. I might be wrong on this but I wonder if they are reaching out to more "J6Pack-like" people who might be "waking up" to gold and silver with the "cheesy" website?

The APMEX redesigned website is ok IMO but the old design was better IMO. Not that it matters to me because I no longer buy anything from APMEX.

Where do you buy now, golddealer, or just locally?

I do most of my silver buying from local coin dealers and at coin shows in my area. I might occasionally buy a 1-oz silver art bar on ebay if it is on my silver art bar "wish list" and it is within my price range but I do not buy on ebay that often because I get outbid on ebay silver art bar auctions about 99% of the time.

I think the last time that I bought anything from APMEX was sometime in August 2008.

They moved into the Federal Reserve Bank of Oklahoma City, and now the evil is permeating into the minds & souls of the staff.

Showing a "Retail Price" is such a Jewish tactic.

That's a fact.

There are people that know a good thing when they do it, there are people that know how to sell and then there are "marketers" who are usually college educated idiots that couldn't sell a man with diarrhea a roll of toilet paper.

I think that's what it is. Even when the current business model is working marketing types get antsy and feel like they need to do something different, even if it's stupid. Like Coca Cola being #1 in the market and changing the formula anyway. Lots of companies do that, even though it's always a textbook example of stupidity.

They're targeted ads. They'll go away if you purge your cookies. The ad servers cross-reference your cookies, and push ads at you that they think you'll be interested in.

Thanks for that. I did not know that. Before now, I was always wondering why APMEX still had all of these ads on almost each website that I was visiting even though it as been about 2 years since I bought anything from them. I guess I should have known that. I had not purged my cookies in a looooong while. It is well overdo for me to do some "cleaning" on my computer.

Now APMEx redesigns their website. What's this world coming to?

With APMEX redesigning their website, it sounds to me like the world is coming to an end. The APMEX indicator seems to be a very good indicator that the world is indeed coming to an end. :sarc: :sarc: :sarc:

Since Techno Viking ate Chuck Norris, then there is no hope for us mere mortals to stop the world from ending. Bummer..........

The thing that I think they get completely wrong - and sort of rubs me the wrong way is the whole "Retail Price" thing.

Look APMEX, we are buying based on the relation to SPOT PRICE - thats all. Gold, Silver, etc are commodities and that's how we think of them....not as something that has a "Retail Price" and then we get some sort of savings because we are such special people.
