I had a good chuckle too, but on #5... It'll still be loud if you use hyper-sonic ammo. Sub-sonics won't make it sound like the movies; but will make it quieter.

the movies make you think you can shoot with one gun in each hand with deadly accuracy at 50 yards - just because Neo/ Keanu Reeves can do it.

One that bugs me which can be seen in Die Hard 4 is people using pistols and barely aiming shooting guys who are looking down the sights of a rifle. They make these ludicrous shots while running and jumping and just point the gun in the vicinity and magically bad guys die. I'm amazed at how little most people know about guns.

Also as far as the plastic bottle silencer, clearly the author at cracked has never made one ;)

What, you cant do all those things like in Die Hard 4? Jeez man, I thought every pistol shooter could. Guess Im gonna have to break the bad news at the next IDPA event... ;D

And yes, I concur with your plastic water bottle silencer statment!

The biggest movie gun myth (one NOT in the article...)?

Guns rarely ever need to be reloaded, and have infinite-capacity magazines. 8)

Guns rarely ever need to be reloaded, and have infinite-capacity magazines.

I got 37 rounds out of my shotgun at the end of Army of Darkness.

What I love in action movies is where the guy gets shot by a big gun, so he goes flying backwards through the air.

As for cocking, maybe they actually ran out of ammo and right before the scene, decocked and reloaded, and were recocking the gun so that trigger pull would be easier on the first shot.. it could happen...

Although for infinite ammo I don't think anything will ever beat the minigun in Predator.

This is my favorite one too....because if the gun is that big, the guy shooting the gun should be flying backwards too.

I've yet to see that in any action movie. ;D

I hate it when someone fires a gun in a car or an enclosed space like a hotel room and no one hunkers down in pain covering their ears with tears running from their eyes. Additionally, when bullets go through things like glass you can bet there will be loads of dangerous shrapnel flying about which would hurt even the shooter in a tight space like a car. I have always wanted to see a gangster style movie that honestly depicted guns. People would go deaf and bleed from the ears, the good guy would get shot when his overly abused pistol jammed up or he ran out of ammo, the first 5 shots from any person hit the floor on the draw up, and so on...

For me, a badly depicted gun scene destroys suspension of disbelief.

Oh, yeah, you don't get shot in the leg, grimace in pain, shake it off and take off running with a slight limp. Generally your bones are shattered and you are in so much pain and losing so much blood you just go into shock.

As someone alluded to earlier, marksmanship fails under stress and especially under duress of injury.

I always crack up when movies show revolvers with silencers. Completely useless.

The all time winner was the Spanish guy who cut off his sister's ears for some macho reason, so the hero comes to settle the score: he shoots his ears off. Two shots, no misses. And after being shot in both ears, the guy is still on his feet and speaking coherently.

One thing I liked about the shootouts in the movie "Way of the Gun" is that they made a concerted effort to count rounds, and not let there be any movie magic. It's still a movie, but they do a nice job of inserting some realistic room clearing and tactics. From the muzzle awareness/partner awareness to the handling of the weapons to going from primary to secondary weapons... i love the scene where Benicio is "feel checking" for a fresh mag for his Galil (second video). His eyes are scanning vs looking down. When he realizes he has no more mags he detaches his Galil from his tactical sling and at the same time draws his 1911.

I haven't personally counted or checked, but the word on the internet is that each round fired in the movie is accounted for. Nobody ever fires when their gun should be empty. They made a huge effort to be physically and tactically realistic in this movie!

P.S. The opening scene is not without its charm, but is a little bit on the crude side of humor.

A "friend" of mine got arrested for making silencers the head of the ATF in CA told him, in person, that they were the best one that he has ever seen......the one for the forty five Cold Commander sounded like someone hitting a wooden table with a rubber hammer. By changing the pistols spring to a weaker one he was able to make it work as a regular one.

About the original article........the first picture at the top shows a revolver with a sound suppressor, or sound moderator, and that's a bunch of bull, you cannot silenced a revolver.

Impressive - I'd like to see how he machined the cylinder to move forward and backwards!

Watch at about 0:55 for the sealing action
Watch at about 1:10 for the special round designed for this gun

Go to any decent dealer who carries classic guns and you can put your hands on one and play with the action yourself.

You know I was gonna quote something else but since I ran into this "WAY OF THE GUN" post...........I just have to concur and give the "shoot-out" scenes a thumbs up. Definitely one of the more realistic movies when it comes to guns.

The last scen is pretty brutal.
2 Thumbs up!

Funny how an article intending to dispel gun misconceptions erroneously calls assault rifles machine guns.

As SLV pointed out, its the aciton of the gun itself, the way it was made. They are neat and impressive little revolver and not overly expensive. Definitley worth checking out, especialy if you are into C&R.
