Folks in the northern areas (Canada, north US) will be privy to northern lights tonight at much lower latitude than is normally visible.

Would it really be so bad if the US Government's and MIC's computers were "taken out" permanently?

(yes, I realize ours go with it)

Naw... although I'm sure they'd have new ones up and running in no time.

I'm sure they have "hardened" systems, but hardened systems require perpetual power, and, humans underestimate the power of nature far too often.

I'm not holding my breath for "relief" in the form of a CME, though.

When do they get here, and what part of the earth is going to hit?

Good question the article says
It will effect the area of earth facing the sun.

But no indication of what time or anything like that.

Im skeptical any thing will happen....But like Sir Gonzo said, "bring it on"

This is gonna be cool, especially if it disables everyones iPhones. I swear if I see another person playing with a iPhone or touch screen phone glued to their face I'm going to punch them in the face and kill their pets.

I'm waiting, I looked up in the sky a few moments ago & saw the Sun, tried listening, but couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary. 8)

I heard one gigaton of energy is going to be directed solely at the Los Angeles Basin.

The night of 8/3 for us, the morning of 8/4 for the other side.

Wherever it hits, it doesn't matter, since the entire ionosphere is affected. More intense localized effects are likely, but if it takes out anything in orbit (i.e., satellites), they could be oblique to the direct hit.

Unlikely, unless it's really powerful.
