Outsourcing we can believe in: U.S. to Train 3,000 Offshore IT Workers --$22 million, federally-backed program aims to help outsourcers in South Asia become more fluent in areas like Java programming--and the English language. 03 Aug 2010 Despite President Obama's pledge to retain more hi-tech jobs in the U.S., a federal agency run by a hand-picked Obama appointee has launched a $22 million program to train workers, including 3,000 specialists in IT and related functions, in South Asia. Following their training, the tech workers will be placed with outsourcing vendors in the region that provide offshore IT and business services to American companies looking to take advantage of the Asian subcontinent's low labor costs. USAID [the US terrorist group that taught Latin American police how to torture political dissidents in the 1960s and 1970s] will also help the trainees brush up on their English language proficiency.

So...when can I expect an offer for free Thai speaking classes. I will need to understand my new overlords in the future.

What a disgrace.

And the politicians talk about "jobs." Not only a mixed message but outright lie.

And USAID, is a very corrupt organization that is backed by the US government and very dodgy.

I think a lot of the outsourcing (at least to my knowledge) is going to Vietnam and other South Eastern Asian countries (perhaps China).

3 years ago I worked as a contractor for an American software company with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

I worked in the office in Saigon, Vietnam. I was told (and I assume they were being truthful) that this company had (for the most part) the best software and computer programmers in Vietnam. Most of these employees were Vietnamese University graduates with degrees in programming, and other computer science fields. This company has/had a lot of competition for new workers. The company chooses who think believe are the top of the field, and then trains them.

My point:

These hot shop computer programmers in Vietnam earn $300 USD per month. No medical, no insurance, no SS (of course).

They are doing the same job as an American who did this job for about $60,000 USD per year + the typical benefits.

This is what I was told.

Also, all of the clients/customers (100%) of the outsourcing operation were based in the United States.
