You know, as a nation, we are not prepared for the depression that's coming/is here now.
These photo's are an eye-opener. Folks back then, were accustomed to hard work, they were lean, strong, rugged. These photos of them, small businesses working hard. Steel industry, folks eating at small tables, getting by not by much.
Nowadays, we're lethargic and lazy as a nation. We aren't, collectively going to be able handle tough times. We're a nation fed by the media, bloated with it.
These photos are very telling...thank you for sharing this. This, is a big wake up actually. Fantastic photos.

These were exactly my thoughts as well. Notice the people are very closely tied to their agriculture and are more able to self sustain themselves then. I especially like the "Dug out" cabin shot with the garden next to it with the little girl. Yes telling indeed.

Great photos. Not only a look at where we've been, but where we are heading, except with this depression, less hard work and signs of hope and more hands outstretched waiting for bailouts.

Problem is not where we've been, or where we are heading. It's where we are right now.
Bailouts just postpone everything.
Fact is, folks were tougher back then. We are soft on the fat of our consumption society, been that way for years. We have less family businesses...as in the photos, we have less farms agriculturaly, as in the photos. No steel industry, construction going away..soon gone.
We are content, to line up at walmart like rats waiting for our chinese food pellet.
We created this.
\Our photos of today are different.

Thank you for this! Very cool......and humbling.
I want to be a 'Homesteader'. I am fascinated by that era, and long to live in that time. No matter how difficult it was.
