No more talking smack about coming to Taiwan's defense (which really ended in 2003 when the Chicoms did a sea trial of the Russian Yakhont anti-ship cruise missile and hit the x-ring).

The US Military is still reeling from the Chinese satellite missile strike from a few years ago. Slowly but surely, China is moving beyond reverse engineered copies into technological advancement. Every US military advantage is being checked. But the real advantage is the economic transfer of the last 30 years that has built the industrial and manufacturing base.

Sounds like a spin off from the Star Wars program with its Directed-energy weapons program from the early 80s.
That was thirty years ago so maybe the 2-3 year time frame is a little over optimistic.
