View Full Version : Do you buy gold as a hedge against money printing?

As Wall Street/CNBC would like you you to think?
Inflation is only a small part of the picture.
For me gold is a hedge against a corrupt government and Wall Street banking. It is my distrust of the corrupt in control that makes gold necessary.
I believe Wall Street/goverment wants you to believe it is an inflation hedge so when conditions change, you can be lured out of gold and back into a corrupt stock market.
Don't fall for their lies and educate others.

I buy gold and silver because they are real money.
I buy gold and silver because because they are not fraudalent unbacked unconstitutional private bank IOU coupons.
I buy gold and silver because they have intrinsic value that cannot be diminished by decree of corrupt rapacious government.
I buy gold and silver because they can only be produced through honest labor.
I buy gold and silver because they are pure concentrated private property.
I buy gold and silver because they are beyond the reach of rapacious thieving governments.
And then I had the boating accident..... :-\

I buy gold because I don't trust the government. Notice I didn't say "my" government. It's not mine any more. Don't give me any crap about "My country right or wrong." In my country we make things right!

Apparently you didn't read the fine print.
i.e. no returns, no exchanges, after 30 days.
But no shirt, no shoes? No problem. {because that's their plan for our future}

Gold is probably better as a deflationary hedge. Defaults are common in deflationary environment, and any issuer of paper assets, companies, banks, central banks and governments are subject to default, and the issue of any of the securities they issue, stocks, bonds, currency can become worthless overnight. If it is a central bank the result would be hyperinflation of the currency. The main benefit of physical gold is that you don't have any counter party risk. To some extent it is also an inflationary hedge, but I think you can find inflationary hedges that are far better than gold, unless we are talking about the bankruptcy of the central bank which lead to hyperinflation.
There are not many times in history when gold outperforms other classes of investments, but I think we are in such circumstances now, and I believe gold and silver will continue to shine for some time, probably increasingly so...

Well thank you, maybe.... Good morning Ponce... I don't think there should be a Federal Reserve at all, people should be able to determine what instruments they should be able to use for commerce themselves. We don't need a superior authority to tell us what is lawfull money...

my brother in law the leftist is constantly berating me about buying gold. it exploits the workers who mine it, destroys their towns, etc.
here's my question.
if barrick or whoever just got religion and said, "that's it, these mines are destroying people's lives. we're closing the mines and going home," do you think the mines would just sit there?
i posit that the exploited workers would be right back out there on monday morning still trying to get the gold for themselves. at least with barrick or whoever you have somewhat of a controlled trainwreck as opposed to a full scale derailment.
meh.

70% of the above ground supply is in the form of jewelry. Tell your brother in law to start preaching to people with gold wedding rings and necklaces.
