movies, games or software like windoze 7. I tried Auzureus a long time ago and forgot all the links I had. From what I remember it's not too complicated but there are a few programs you have to download to do this type of thing.

download this:

http://www.bittorrent.com/btusers/download/complete?os=win

then search whatever search engine for what you want and add "torrent" to the end of the search query.

download utorrent
http://www.utorrent.com/

then go to a RERPUTABLE torrent indexing site

try kickasstorrents.com, or thepiratebay.org

those 2 provide the majority of things you will most likely want.

The one and only!

I also have a www.demonoid.com account.

BitTorrent is fine, but I prefer uTorrent.

I downloaded the link and went to try and download something so I typed windows 7 torrent in the search box in the upper right hand corner. Then a new window pops up with the search results and there are about 148,000 results. Are there some sites I should steer clear of when I go to download? On the first page I see www.torrenthound.com, torrentwarez.com, www.downloadsquad.com etc.

If you use The Pirate Bay, you can trust downloading stuff from any user that has a little skull & crossbones (pink or green) next to his/her name. Anything from "anonymous" or untrusted users is at your own risk.

For example:

I just started using this, so I don't have to download anything, just stream the movies. I'm not very good at stopping viruses and every time I download a movie with bit torrent, i get hit. I started with kookica, which is pretty good also.

Utorrent the bomb.

kickasstorrents or btjunkie are some of the best and piratebay of course.

I use torrentz.com as my search. If a pirate-bay result comes up I use that. The reason is the torrentz search works much better than the pirate bay search. If no pirate bay result comes up you can pick something else. I never had a virus problem with any of them but I don't use IE.

Don't mess with kickasstorrents.com. Unless you feel like removing a trojan from your computer. I dint learn my lesson and twice i had to reboot in safe mode, find the hidden files, edit the registry, wipe every trace of a trojan that wouldn't let me open any program , not even task manager until payed $30 for some fake anti-virus program.

KICKASTORRENTS IS A VIRUS... (Site that installs a trojan) Don't believe me, then go click around....

You don't even have to download anything, the script on the site alone will hijack your computer. I never heard of kickasstorrents until someone on this site mentioned it, and after my experience I could snap their neck.

My computer wasn't that hijacked since i clicked some chinese porn site 5 years ago.

You obviously have no clue how torrents work.

You are like the dumbasses in the comment section of torrent sites warning everyone of the "trojan your antivirus picked up" when it's just the keygen for whatever software you downloaded.

There are undoubtedly viruses on EVERY single torrent website, but there are millions of torrents too after you do it awhile it becomes obvious. In general the files with the most seeds are good files.

I've been using torrents for probably 6 or so years, and I haven't had a virus in probably 10, nor do I use antivirus just common sense.

Here is one that has the most documentaries and GSUS materiel of any site I've seen

You know what. It's my fault for trying to warn others of the dangers of kickasstorrents.com so they can avoid my mistakes.

Everyone go out and frequent kickasstorrents.

When your computer gets hi-jacked, remember who recommended the website.

Yeah the guy who has used them since they opened downloaded many TB's of data via torrents and NEVER HAD A VIRUS.

I'm not saying you never got a virus because you downloaded a bad copy of something, I'm just saying it's not kickasstorrents who did it to you, it's YOU who did it to you.

I'm not sure if you know how torrent indexers work, but essentially they are search engines but ones that only search torrent files, so going around saying "avoid google it gave me a virus" sounds pretty damn stupid.

kickasstorrents lists metadata files commonly known as torrents for a wide-variety of material. Some of those get you great stuff. Some - if you're not careful - get you undesirable stuff. kickasstorrents by itself installs nothing. I've seen some horrible shit at The Pirate Bay (usually by "anonymous" - hence my warning above).

Nordic Berserker is correct.

This is the exact trojan that got installed on my pc just by browsing kickasstorrents.com http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/8693/how-to-remove-antivirus-live-and-other-roguefake-antivirus-malware/

It happened once so i deleted the link to kickasstorrents.

Then, 2 weeks later, not learning my lesson, i went back to the site to try and find a movie. AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. i didn't download anything , just browsed the site with firefox 3.0.8.

You clicked something. Firefox does not install anything without your active permission. Further, what AV are you running?

Phoenix
17th August 2010, 08:49 AM
Yeah it does. probably by loading some activex script or some other malicious code.

Let's say I unwillingly "clicked something."

It's not worth the risk for me to be on some site where one wrong click installs that rogue anti-virus trojan.

A lot of times its the 3rd party ads on a website that will do it. They get taken down right away but can infect a few vulnerable computers in the meantime.

No browser is ever 100%. The security updates come out because someone found an exploit. However, it's unlikely you're going to be one of the first people to run across a new exploit.

I actually was one of the first people once to get a brand new virus. Spend half the day getting rid of it then one of my coworkers wanted the files it installed since you can apparently get money from the anti-virus companies for new stuff. I don't know if he ever got any cash but they did add it to their scanner overnight.

What boogie said.

It has been a while since i've downloaded but Newsgroups is hands down far far better than torrents. It does take a bit to set up and you will have to pay a small amount but it is worth it if you download a serious amount of stuff.

I always found Newsgroups had much better quality stuff and never ever had a virus hidden in.

If I remember correctly a 4GB DVD rip took about 20mins to download and an album was well under 60 secs.

Actually, if boogietillyapuke would mind me asking, what do you use for newsgroups??

If I remember correctly I used:

Server:
http://www.newsdemon.com/

Newsreader:
http://www.newsleecher.com/?id=home

Search:
I can't remember for the life of me :-\

Also something to note for the torrents users:

Establishing the identity of the person posting illegal content is equally difficult due to the trust-based design of the network. Like SMTP email, servers generally assume the header and origin information in a post is true and accurate. However, as in SMTP email, Usenet post headers are easily falsified so as to obscure the true identity and location of the message source.[24] In this manner, Usenet is significantly different from modern P2P services; most P2P users distributing content are typically immediately identifiable to all other users by their network address, but the origin information for a Usenet posting can be completely obscured and unobtainable once it has propagated past the original server.[25]

Also unlike modern P2P services, the identity of the downloaders is hidden from view. On P2P services a downloader is identifiable to all others by their network address. On Usenet, the downloader connects directly to a server, and only the server knows the address of who is connecting to it. Some Usenet providers do keep usage logs, but not all make this logged information casually available to outside parties such as the RIAA.[26][27]

A bit of privacy thrown in.

Usenet is badass before I moved my ISP had free access to it.

Not the case with crapcast, and paying to pirate kinda goes against my grain. I keep saying I'm going to get a year subscription but keep putting it off.

I have an account with astraweb. I originally got it when Bellsouth had newsgroups, and they in their infinite wisdom, knowing what's best for me, discontinued the alt.binaries part of the groups.

They had several options at the time and I just bought something like a 100gb chunk instead of the monthly unlimited account. An unlimited account with a 1Mbit, 20 connection limit is now $10@month. I don't download like I used to and still have GB's left. When ever they're gone, I'll just buy another buttload. 180gb is like $25.
