What stands out the most is what the lady said: there are people worse off than she and her family are. She has a job and a motel room, many have no job and their bed is under the bridge.

I frequently tell our family that we should give thanks to God daily for what we do have. We're not "in trouble" in the least, but anything can happen in an instant.

Is it Ponce who says "those who are prepared are not'? That's a harsh truism. Don't ever assume you are "prepared for anything." You can't know the "anything" that may come. You can be diligent, but then, ultimately, it's up to God to shield you from things you can't prepare for.

Anyone who wishes these folks ill deserves whatever harm comes their way.

Yeah, that stood out to me too. She bikes 5 miles each day to work at McDonalds. She also said anywhere she has her family is 'home'. God bless that family, I think and hope he's looking out for them. She is a fighter, and I think that good things will be in her future. She's earned it, imo.

Washington DC needs to be cleaned out.
Thoroughly.
They should be vigorously horse whipped.
And many should be dealt with more severely.
Much more severely...

Bad circumstances can slide anybody down the "invisible people" path.

I once hired a homeless man. I was having trouble filling a technical trade position, so I put ads out in the big cities within 400 miles. I could talk with the guys and pretty much know if they knew my equipment and would be worth an interview. One guy I ended up sending a Greyhound ticket to lived at the Mission out of town. We agreed he'd come work for three days and if I didn't hire him, I'd buy him a ticket back and pay him for his work.

He got off the bus and told me I needed to buy him some reading glasses. I put him up at a hotel and gave him an advance for necessities. He turned out to be a really good employee. He got on his feet and had such a positive attitude. He'd ride his bike to work and sometimes I'd stop to see if he wanted a ride when it was raining.

When I sold my business, he was the first person fired by the new owner. :-[ He called me up and I told him he could still collect unemployment on my old account. We both moved away in different directions. I'm still so happy when he calls me to tell me where he's at and what he's doing.

Many of the homeless are much more clued into / accepting of Reality, than anyone in a business suit. Talking with some of them is satisfying, as you can speak the same language we do, and they understand, sometimes even teaching you something from their unique experiences.

I'll never forget a huge fundraiser I was involved with at the California State Capital in 1999. During cleanup, we were lacking manpower, and at least a dozen of the Sacramento Capitol Mall homeless came over to help pick up tables, chairs, etc. Only a few accepted anything for their efforts, even sodas. Some just wanted to "feel useful." Most were veterans.

(and no, nothing was missing when we were done)

Some just wanted to "feel useful."

I can relate with that in a sense. I have been mostly unemployed for the better part of two years, but sometimes I will go help some of the people I know that are struggling with their small businesses... they can't always afford to pay me (sometimes there is some sort of compensation), but it's nice just to help them out - to feel useful - sure beats sitting home lamenting the fact that paying work is a bitch to come by these days.

If anyone is wondering... NO, I'm not on UI.

Supposed to start a new job at the end of the week, actually, and just in frickin' time, too. :)

Unfortunately, nothing, then.

Unless you have some ICBMs available.

There will always be homeless people. I've sojourned amongst these folk myself and a portion of them reject the label of homeless for that of tramp or hobo. Some of these pics in this thread are of tramps, not homeless people. Homeless people are more victims of circumstance, whereas hobos or tramps are making a lifestyle choice. We don't want to make homelessness illegal, as some would have it no other way.

All that said, the solution to unemployment is to go back to an agricultural based economy of small farms, with supporting layers of craftsmen, small business people, medical people, and philosophers, and a minimum of oil-based technology.

Armed revolution, forcible removal of the current regime and all its Zionist apparatus (the "Federal" reserve, the political establishment called the Pentagon, the "intelligence community," etc.) and replacement by a National Socialist (customized to America) or equivalent government, backed by the popular militia and direct flag-officer-controlled armed forces.

That's not going to happen, because the people are too stupid and too lazy to resist en masse.

Many homeless are "mentally ill" and are incapable of functioning in the artificial, anti-human socio-legal environment that prevails. Others are dope addicts or drunks who refuse a better life. But the bulk, and growing, majority of the homeless are now people without options - these are often not "seen" as homeless, because they have temporary housing or are "couch surfing." A combination of wrecked "credit," a low-paying or no job, illness, and/or eviction (often because the "property management" machine doesn't care or might even be in foreclosure) are the reasons this mass of effectively homeless people will continue to grow, and overshadow the chronics that people (often rightly) regard as bums.
