It may not be your computer. It might just be the GSUS web page issues. I was also having problems loading the GSUS web page but I can usually hit the refresh button on your internet browser and I would not have any problems. The other web sites that I look at did not have that issue.

yes GSUS is having a hard time lately. Mick if this happens on more than just here there are some settings in your browser you should update. Set it to dump all history and cookies when closed. When I have issues I will hit alt/control/delete to bring up task manager and will kill firefox and restart it which almost always clears things up.
If you need more help just let me know!

You need to clean out your computer with CCleaner or Advanced SystemCare and/or Glary Utilities, all free (be sure to download the free versions).
Try that, first possibility for speeding things up.
I've been experiencing failures to load since "upgrading" to Firefox 3.6.8, not just here at GS-US, but many places. That could be part of the problem.

another good scan tool is malware bytes... dot org. Free and Works well. A good sign of an infection is not being able to visit antivirus software web sites. Not the only sign but it can be a sign.
I find GSUS doesn't load sometimes but everything else is ok.
Having lots of things running can do that as well. I like to go into msconfig (Start-> Run -> msconfig -> Ok) and look at the start up list. I disable anything APPLE related. QuickTime is another one. Real player agent. Adobe updater, google updater. Any updater for that matter. Camera detecting software if you have one of those. Basically anything that will start up anyway when you play one of it's file types or when you plug one of it's devices into USB. You don't need it there when you are not using their files or devices. Only disable things will sensible names (as a rule) otherwise you might disable a program needed by windows.
Check out the computers "virtual memory". I think it is best to SET it to "System managed size". Sometimes, especially with XP it seems to be set to fixed sizes which are inadequate. What app is setting this I don't know, but I do know from time to time, on XP's I have made it System managed and come back to find it changed.
More RAM can some times help up to a point. XP has problems dealing with more than 2Gb so anymore is a waste. Vista and a 7 can handle more.

Mick, is your computer having a hard time with GS-us or also with other web pages ?
the reference i use for computer stuff -

mech is sort of a super-tech that takes time to explain things. good security stuff (i.e. info, suggested procedures, etc.) there.

Yep. But it seems a bit better today.
What's strange is that http requests are what's slow. You can ping this place all day long with no problems. But at the same time you get a "page cannot be displayed" timeout.
wtf?

Ahh yess, defragged overnight, ran all the scan tools and deleted everything related to online and I am still fine. It;s possible that the server is getting attacks as all small servers do and it sucks. hopefully it goes as this evening did and loads right up for everyone.

Then defrag again.
:)
Disabling all the programs in START UP except the anti-virus gains amazing speed. This free program makes it easy.
