France expelled nearly 100 Roma gypsies to their native Romania yesterday as part of a public effort by President Nicolas Sarkozy to dismantle Roma camps and sweep them out of the country, the Immigration Ministry said.

A chartered flight to Bucharest, which left from Lyon with 79 Roma aboard, Immigration Ministry officials said. However, Romanian border police official Cristian Ene, at Bucharest's Aurel Vlaicu airport, said only 61 people were aboard. Fourteen other people were repatriated to Romania aboard a commercial flight from the Paris region earlier in the day, the French officials said, adding that another Romania-bound repatriation flight was expected Friday. Additional flights were scheduled for later this month and September, Romania's Foreign Ministry said.

Those repatriated yesterday left "on a voluntary basis" and were given small sums of money – €300 (£246) for each adult and €100 for children – to help them get back on their feet in their home country.

Roma advocates countered that the repatriations were hardly voluntary, claiming that those who refused the deal would end up in holding centres before being sent home without funds. Alexandre Le Cleve, a spokesman for Rom Europe, said the expulsions were pointless because nothing prevented the Roma from immediately returning to France.

Israel has said that the fuelling of Iran's first nuclear reactor is "totally unacceptable" and urged greater world pressure to force Tehran to stop any further uranium enrichment.

Iranian engineers reportedly began loading fuel into the country's first nuclear power plant with the help of Russia on Saturday, marking a milestone in Tehran's development of what it insists is a peaceful nuclear energy program.

"It is totally unacceptable that a country that so blatantly violates international treaties should enjoy the fruits of using nuclear energy," Fox News quoted Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yossi Levy, as saying in a statement.

"The international community should increase pressure to force Iran to abide by international decisions and cease its enrichment activities and its construction of reactors," Levy added.

Iran has insisted that it would continue to enrich uranium despite a warning from the White House last week, which said that the Bushehr progress underscores that Iran does not need its own enrichment capability if its intentions, as it states, are for a peaceful nuclear program.arlier, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had said, "If the Iranians are sincere in a peaceful program, their needs can be met without undertaking its own enrichment program, which call into question its motives."

Everytime I see someone call Sarkozy "Sarcoma" (including myself), I have to laugh. ;D

Recently Nicolas Sarkozy announced plans to pursue a vigorous policy of diversity and métissage. Concretely, this means giving preference to minorities in job hiring and prosecuting those who do not comply. In other words, affirmative action as a government policy from which none are exempt.

In his message Sarkozy insisted that the French people must change, that there will be dire consequences if they don't, and that not to intermarry racially is bad for the survival of the country. Thus he amalgamated the concepts of preference for minorities in job hiring with that of the need for the French to intermarry racially.

These are two separate things. But in the mind of Sarkozy they go together. Last December he chose a highly successful Algerian-born businessman, known as an impassioned advocate of diversity, Yazid Sabeg, to be his "high commissioner on diversity and equal opportunity", and to implement these government orders.
