Editor's Note: Forum Issues [August 25, 2010]
http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/breakingnews.html

As most of you have probably realized, the forum has been up and down all day. I've hired an SQL person to manage the transition from the current host to Bluehost and am waiting to hear back on the prognosis.

People are pissed about the outages. I understand that. Keep in mind that however pissed you are, I'm about 1,000 times more pissed. Aside from the fact that I've put 8 years into LATOC and 5 years into the forum, it is also a not insignificant part of my income.

If things aren't resolved in the next day or so what I'm going to do is ask everybody to register at Doomers.Activeboard.com. Then I'll take the database of the original LATOC Forum, get it cleaned up as much as possible then have it archived and linked prominently at the new forum so that all the information is still accessible.

There are also some new services I want to use the forum as a launching pad for those and all these outages has delayed that.

As far as a "dirty tricks" campaign: Not once in 8 years have I ever thought for a second that LATOC was enough of a threat to anybody or anything that it would warrant a dirty tricks campaign. But I will concede that timing of these problems, which coincided with all the work people were doing in regards to the situation in the Gulf, was odd. There is, for instance, currently a video of a Florida Congressman saying that the "obsesseive" ROV watchers on the net actually did play a role in pressuring BP and a lot of that obsessive ROV watching and analysis was taking place at the LATOC Forum. So while I still don't think this was any type of dirty tricks campaign, it is the first time I've entertained the possibility.

Whatever the cause I do want to thank people for their patience. If you find yourself having withdrawals while I get this sorted out just go to the Active Board forum (linked above) and have a chat with others.

Fascinating thread about LATOC self-destructing. Read all the insulting comments by former members...lol.

:o

I appears that the new "member's only" Forum is now off the interwebs...just .................gone.

I added my two bits on page 10.

On page 5 someone linked this as an alternative forum: http://goldismoney.info/forums/index.php >:(
And later I thought this was cute:

These are both from October 28th:

Anyway, allegedly, the hive does many things better than paid experts. Wikipedia is an example of this assertion. Most web content is generated by hive inhabitants for free, profiting the new elite cybernetic ownership class, which is to say some corporation or other. This also means that content becomes worthless. That the efforts of skilled and devoted journalists, artists and others become valueless, unsellable, just more info-shards in the hive. Only advertising has value in the cyberhive. In a nation whose social realism has been represented by advertising for three quarters of a century, that was to be expected.

The LATOC Forum is now archived in read only mode: Archived LATOC Forum.

I'll keep it archived there indefinitely unless somebody is willing to take it off my hands. If you're interested, email me...
