Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spends the time he was supposed to meet with the visiting head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, on vacation.

Netanyahu's office cancelled the meeting, saying "he would speak on the telephone to the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] Yukiya Amano later this week," Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported on Tuesday.

The IAEA director general is on his first visit to Israel, having asked to hold talks with the premier months ago.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Security Adviser Uzi Arad would likewise not be meeting with Amano.

The prime minister's bureau claimed Netanyahu had to take the vacation in advance to find time for the agency's upcoming gathering in the next month.

The meeting is expected to focus on the issue of Israel's nuclear weapons amid mounting international pressure on the regime to place its controversial nuclear facilities under the agency's supervision.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has between 200 and 300 nuclear warheads, referring to Tel Aviv as the sole possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East.

Israel has, however, avoided punitive measures so far owning to its oldest and most steadfast ally the United States. The US supports Israel's policy of "nuclear ambiguity."

The White House has, meanwhile, said that US President Barack Obama has vowed to shield Israel from being "singled out" at neither the September gathering nor an Egyptian-proposed 2012 regional conference on a nuclear-free Middle East.

Israeli president warns IAEA chief of Iranian threat

JERUSALEM, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Israeli President Shimon Peres met on Wednesday with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Yukiya Amano in Jerusalem and warned the IAEA head of recent statements by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacking Israel and denying the Holocaust.

"The statements of Ahmadinejad calling for the destruction of Israel and denying the Holocaust are unprecedented in the diplomatic world and international community and the IAEA should treat them with the required severity," Peres said.

"Israel and the world are under the threat of Iran who does not hesitate to threaten to use nuclear weapons," Peres told Amano, adding, "One cannot separate the country's nuclear program from the nature of its regime."

Peres complimented Amano on what he termed a "substantive change" from his predecessors, saying that as a result, "we can speak this morning professionally and in a friendly atmosphere. From our perspective this is a new experience."

Amano also met with several Israeli officials during his visit, according to a statement from Peres' office, including Shaul Horev, director general of the Israel Atomic Energy Commission, and Deputy Prime Minister and Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya'alon.

"I met with Minister Ya'alon, visited the Soreq Nuclear Research Center, my hosts took me on a helicopter tour of Israel," Amano said of the three-day working visit.

If the rogue state of Israel isn't brought under international nuclear inspections, IAEA may as well be dismantled.

Yeah, they held him out the door and told him they would let him fall if he didn't cut Israel the same slack they don't want Iran to have.
