Absolutely a gorgeous coin! I am a big fan of Dan Carr's coinage, I will have to pick one of these up at the next coin show!

This coin is modeled after the famous privately struck gold coins from 1860 from private mint Clark Gruber and Co.:

At that time the artist doing the engraving didn't know what Pikes Peak looked like, so he made up this large mountain looking thing to symbolize Denver. Very, very cool. 8)

that is a nice piece!

I too am a big fan of both Dan and David's work

have you managed to get your hands on the coin in your avatar yet madfranks?? (sans the melonhead of course lol :D)

I've snagged a couple of his ameros and 1/10 oz gold pieces and had a chance to talk to him about his coins and ideas. He is really passionate about them!

Yep, I got a couple of the coins my avatar is taken from. You can't see it in my avatar, but the other side features the head of an indian chief, which reminds me of the indian head quarter and half eagles pre-33.
