The Marijuana Conspiracy: The reason hemp is illegal
Doug Yurchey
The Dot Connector

They say marijuana is dangerous. Pot is not harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does not pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people. The truth is, if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about the plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.

Where did the word ‘marijuana’ come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant – as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years :

1) All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s. (Jack Frazier. Hemp Paper Reconsidered. 1974.)

2) It was legal to pay taxes with hemp in America from 1631 until the early 1800s. (LA Times. Aug. 12, 1981.)

3) Refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th centuries was against the law! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769 (G. M. Herdon. Hemp in Colonial Virginia).

4) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers grew hemp. (Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France then to America.)

5) Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America, and it processed hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off Moscow’s export to England. (Jack Herer. Emperor Wears No Clothes.)

6)For thousands of years, 90% of all ships’ sails and rope were made from hemp. The word ‘canvas’ is Dutch for cannabis. (Webster’s New World Dictionary.)

7) 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc.,were made from hemp until the 1820s, with the introduction of the cotton gin.

8) The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross’s flag, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp. (U.S. Government Archives.)

9) The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky producing 40,000 tons.Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th century. (State Archives.)

10) Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.

11) Rembrandt’s, Van Gogh’s, Gainsborough’s, as well as most early canvas paintings, were principally painted on hemp linen.

12) In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs. (U.S. Department of Agriculture Archives.)

13) Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935. (Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before the U.S.Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.)

14) Henry Ford’s first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the car itself was constructed from hemp! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, ‘grown from the soil,’ had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel. (Popular Mechanics, 1941.)

15) In 1938, hemp was called ‘Billion Dollar Crop.’ It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars. (Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938.)

16) Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled ‘The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.’ It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

The following information comes directly from the United States Department of Agriculture’s 1942 14-minute film encouraging and instructing ‘patriotic American farmers’ to grow 350,000 acres of hemp each year for the war effort:

“…[When] Grecian temples were new, hemp was already old in the service of mankind. For thousands of years, even then, this plant had been grown for cordage and cloth in China and elsewhere in the East. For centuries prior to about 1850, all the ships that sailed the western seas were rigged with hempen rope and sails. For the sailor, no less than the hangman, hemp was indispensable… Now with Philippine and East Indian sources of hemp in the hands of the Japanese… American hemp must meet the needs of our Army and Navy as well as of our industries… The Navy’s rapidly dwindling reserves. When that is gone, American hemp will go on duty again; hemp for mooring ships; hemp for tow lines; hemp for tackle and gear; hemp for countless naval uses both on ship and shore. Just as in the days when Old Ironsides sailed the seas victorious
with her hempen shrouds and hempen sails. Hemp for victory!”

Certified proof from the Library of Congress, found by the research of Jack Herer, refutes claims of other government agencies that the 1942 USDA film ‘Hemp for Victory’ did not exist.

Hemp cultivation and production do not harm the environment. The USDA Bulletin #404 concluded that hemp produces four times as much pulp with at least four to seven times less pollution.

From Popular Mechanics, February 1938:
“It has a short growing season… It can be grown in any state… The long roots penetrate and break the soil to leave it in perfect condition for the next year’s crop. The dense shock of leaves, 8 to 12 feet above the ground, chokes out weeds. …Hemp, this new crop can add immeasurably to American agriculture and industry.” In the 1930s, innovations in farm machinery would have caused an industrial revolution when applied to hemp. This single resource could have created millions of new jobs generating thousands of quality products. Hemp, if not made illegal, would have brought America out of the Great Depression.

THE CONSPIRACY
William Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) and the Hearst Paper Manufacturing Division of Kimberly Clark owned vast acreage of timberlands. The Hearst Company supplied most paper products. Patty Hearst’s grandfather, a destroyer of nature for his own personal profit, stood to lose billions because of hemp.

In 1937, DuPont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. DuPont’s Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division. Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron, etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined over 80% of DuPont’s business.

Andrew Mellon became Hoover’s Secretary of the Treasury and DuPont’s primary investor. He appointed his future nephew-in-law,Harry J.Anslinger, to head the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Secret meetings were held by these financial tycoons. Hemp was declared dangerous and a threat to their billion dollar enterprises. For their dynasties to remain intact, hemp had to go. These men took an obscure Mexican slang word: ‘marijuana’ and pushed it into the consciousness of America.

MEDIA MANIPULATION

A media blitz of ‘yellow journalism’ raged in the late 1920s and 1930s. Hearst’s newspapers ran stories emphasizing the horrors of marijuana. The menace of marijuana made headlines. Readers learned that it was responsible for everything from car accidents to loose morality.

Films like Reefer Madness (1936), Marijuana: Assassin of Youth (1935) and Marijuana: The Devil’s Weed (1936) were propaganda designed by these industrialists to create an enemy. Their purpose was to gain public support so that anti-marijuana laws could be passed.

Examine the following quotes from The Burning Question, aka Reefer Madness:
• a violent narcotic;
• acts of shocking violence;
• incurable insanity;
• soul-destroying effects;
• under the influence of the drug he killed his entire family with an ax;
• more vicious, more deadly even than these soul-destroying drugs (heroin, cocaine) is the menace of marijuana!
Reefer Madness did not end with the usual ‘the end.’ The film concluded with these words plastered on the screen: ‘Tell your children.’

In the 1930s, people were very naive, even to the point of ignorance. The masses were like sheep waiting to be led by the few in power. They did not challenge authority. If the news was in print or on the radio, they believed it had to be true. They told their children, and their children grew up to be the parents of the babyboomers.

On April 14, 1937, the prohibitive Marijuana Tax Law, or the bill that outlawed hemp, was directly brought to the House Ways and Means Committee. This committee is the only one that can introduce a bill to the House floor without it being debated by other committees. The Chairman of the U.S. Senate, Ways and Means Committee, at the time,Robert Doughton, was a DuPont supporter. He insured that the bill would pass Congress.

Dr. James Woodward, a physician and attorney, testified too late on behalf of the American Medical Association. He told the committee that the reason the AMA had not denounced the Marijuana Tax Law sooner was that the Association had just discovered that marijuana was hemp.

Few people, at the time, realized that the deadly menace they had been reading about on Hearst’s front pages was in fact passive hemp. The AMA understood cannabis to be a medicine found in numerous healing products sold over the last hundred years.

In September of 1937, hemp became illegal. The most useful crop known became a drug and our planet has been suffering ever since.

Congress banned hemp because it was said to be the most violence-causing drug known. Harry Anslinger, head of the Drug Commission for 31 years, promoted the idea that marijuana made users act extremely violent. In the 1950s, under the Communist threat of McCarthyism, Anslinger then said the exact opposite: marijuana will pacify you so much that soldiers would not want to fight.

Today, our planet is in desperate trouble. Earth is suffocating as large tracts of rain forests disappear. Pollution, poisons and chemicals are killing people. These great problems could be reversed if we industrialized hemp. Natural biomass could provide all of the planet’s energy needs that are currently supplied by fossil fuels. We have consumed 80% of our oil and gas reserves. We need a renewable resource. Hemp could be the solution to soaring gas prices.

THE WONDER PLANT
Hemp has a higher quality fiber than wood fiber. Far fewer caustic chemicals are required to make paper from hemp than from trees. Hemp paper does not turn yellow and is very durable. The plant grows quickly to maturity in a season where trees take a lifetime.

All plastic products should be made from hemp seed oil. Hempen plastics are biodegradable! Over time, they would break down and not harm the environment. Oil-based plastics, the ones we are very familiar with, help ruin nature. They do not break down and will do great harm in the future. The process to produce the vast array of natural (hempen) plastics will not ruin the rivers as DuPont and other petrochemical companies have done. Ecology does not fit in with the plans of the oil industry and the political machine.Hemp products are safe and natural.

Medicines should be made from hemp. We should go back to the days when the AMA supported cannabis cures.‘Medical Marijuana’ is given out legally to only a handful of people while the rest of us are forced into a system that relies on chemicals. Pot is only healthy for the human body.

World hunger could end. A large variety of food products can be generated from hemp. The seeds contain one of the highest sources of protein in nature. Also: They have two essential fatty acids that clean your body of cholesterol. These essential fatty acids are not found anywhere else in nature! Consuming pot seeds is the best thing you could do for your body. Eat uncooked hemp seeds.

Clothes should be made from hemp. Hemp clothing is extremely strong and durable over time. You could hand clothing, made from pot, down to your grandchildren. Today, there are American companies that make hemp clothing; usually 50% hemp. Hemp fabrics should be everywhere. Instead, they are almost underground. Superior hemp products are not allowed to advertise on fascist television.

Kentucky, once the top hemp producing state, made it illegal to wear hemp clothing! Can you imagine being thrown into jail for wearing quality jeans?

The world is crazy. But that does not mean you have to join the insanity. Get together. Spread the news. Tell people, and that includes your children, the truth. Use hemp products. Eliminate the word ’marijuana.’ Realize the history that created it. Make it politically incorrect to say or print the M-word. Fight against the propaganda (designed to favor the agenda of the super rich) and the bullshit. Hemp must be utilized in the future. We need a clean energy source to save our planet. Industrialize hemp!

You should have threatened to sue the school if the facts you presented could not be refuted, as school is supposed to be about the facts of a matter.

While the OP was thorough, all anyone needs to know about this issue and gov lies is the fact that it is classified as a schedule1 substance, and declared to have no medicinal benefit.
But on the other hand, a synthetic duplicate of the active ingredient is approved for mnedicinal use.

So how can the natural version have no use, but yet a synthetic copy of it does?

That's not even getting into the fact that the usgov itself holds a patent on the use of canibinoids as an antioxidant and neuroprotectant.

Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia. (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6630507.PN.&OS=PN/6630507&RS=PN/6630507)

Why would they even apply for a patent for the medicinal use if there were no medicinal use?

Spot on Hatha.

I dropped out shortly after that, I was tired of being told what to think and not how to think. Funny thing is, 3 or 4 years later in a college class I ran across the same situation in a CFR, Illuminati, unconstitutional income tax etc.. paper and presentation I was to give. This time though I was a bit more aggressive and threatened full legal recourse for depriving me of my 1st amendment rights, I think I got a C? LMAO. As a side note...I got booted from there after they found out I didn't have a HS diploma and had BS'd my way into their school, something about fraud. ::)

The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The new findings “were against our expectations,” said Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles, a pulmonologist who has studied marijuana for 30 years.

“We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use,” he said. “What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect.”

Federal health and drug enforcement officials have widely used Tashkin’s previous work on marijuana to make the case that the drug is dangerous. Tashkin said that while he still believes marijuana is potentially harmful, its cancer-causing effects appear to be of less concern than previously thought.

Earlier work established that marijuana does contain cancer-causing chemicals as potentially harmful as those in tobacco, he said. However, marijuana also contains the chemical THC, which he said may kill aging cells and keep them from becoming cancerous…

Tashkin’s study, funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse, involved 1,200 people in Los Angeles who had lung, neck or head cancer and an additional 1,040 people without cancer matched by age, sex and neighborhood.

They were all asked about their lifetime use of marijuana, tobacco and alcohol. The heaviest marijuana smokers had lighted up more than 22,000 times, while moderately heavy usage was defined as smoking 11,000 to 22,000 marijuana cigarettes. Tashkin found that even the very heavy marijuana smokers showed no increased incidence of the three cancers studied.

“This is the largest case-control study ever done, and everyone had to fill out a very extensive questionnaire about marijuana use,” he said. “Bias can creep into any research, but we controlled for as many confounding factors as we could, and so I believe these results have real meaning.”

Tashkin’s group at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA had hypothesized that marijuana would raise the risk of cancer on the basis of earlier small human studies, lab studies of animals, and the fact that marijuana users inhale more deeply and generally hold smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers — exposing them to the dangerous chemicals for a longer time. In addition, Tashkin said, previous studies found that marijuana tar has 50 percent higher concentrations of chemicals linked to cancer than tobacco cigarette tar.

While no association between marijuana smoking and cancer was found, the study findings, presented to the American Thoracic Society International Conference this week, did find a 20-fold increase in lung cancer among people who smoked two or more packs of cigarettes a day.

The study was limited to people younger than 60 because those older than that were generally not exposed to marijuana in their youth, when it is most often tried.

I used to be a person that thought that Hemp/Marijuana should never be legal. A part of me still believes legalising drugs is a moral wrong for society; but what we have going on now isn't working. A reason why I feel it shouldn't be legal (in a way) is that smoking pot is something kids do to be rebellious. If it becomes mainstream like booze, which harder drug will they experiment with to have that same rebellion?

Steyr_m I do not believe it is safe to attempt to socially engineer society. People will not act the way any of us think they will. We need to foster freedom and let the chips fall where they may.

Additionally, there are many poisonous, hallucinogenic plants which are also neurotoxic at ANY dose, and are completely legal. Why? It's not about safety. It's about control, money, and power. http://www.erowid.org/plants/datura/datura.shtml Dangerous, damaging at any dose, completely legal.

Only the popular drugs that have potential for monetization become illegal - it is not based on scientific testing or potential danger to the user. It is merely a) a way to move money to the black markets, which i) generates crime, providing sweeping jobs and powers for law enforcement and ii) creates a second set of books (dirty drug money) which can be used to fund black Ops.

Over half of law enforcement activity in some form has to do with drugs these days, especially as a pretense for otherwise illegal searches of all individuals. Half of the prison system is for drugs. It almost seems like without drugs, they'd barely have any work to do. However, WITH drugs, it seems like they have "forgotten" how to handle most regular complaints these days. Drugs are the main reason the cops view citizens as the enemy. Is isn't a war on drugs, it's a war on people who use drugs. Without the drug crutch, our police would be much, much, much more honest.

I leave you with this thought, we are getting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from prohibition, things would pretty much be the same, use levels would be mildly similar in a legalized scenario, pretty much everybody who wanted to try pot has already tried it, those who aren't wanting to try it are never going to. The only reason use would rise is when the general population realized that pot is just safer that alcohol, safer than tobacco - nobody can argue against this point coherantly. So maybe in a generation use will be higher, but alcohol and tobacco will be way down. I don't see the disadvantage here?

Basically people are already using pot and it is kind of ridiculous to assume that they are doing so just to "rebel". You know what I did to rebel when I was younger? I was straight edge, no drugs no drinking, I lit sh*t on fire and watched it burn. To CMA over the internet I'll assure you it was Private property for private use and not ennui with society. That's rebellion, not smoking a J. Smoking a joint is relaxation and recreational, and in fact it was part of what encouraged me to stop being so destructive and move on with my life, to a point where I was building and fostering something good instead of destruction for the point of destruction.

Also, if you really want to get into socially engineering society through what is available, have you considered the fact that the instant pot becomes illegal, 95% of pot dealers will be out of business? So-called drug dealers, will be forced to get a job or go broke. Artificially inflated prices through prohibition is what allows people who are naturally risk takers to become so rich and where the entire "Thug Lifestyle" comes from. End prohibition and the thug lifestyle will suddenly be working at burger king.

Just some thoughts.

If I were to have lived according to their rules I would probably be a welfare dude right now. I broke my neck in 1990, had severe nerve and muscular damage too and was told by the docs I would never be the same again, ever. I was prescribed some of the heaviest duty drugs I had ever taken and believe me well before my accident I was one partying SOB and took a lot of wild ass drugs. The drugs they prescribed were rendering me useless as a man, a husband, a worker, provider, I was a waste of human skin, absolutely good to no one, even myself. The job I had found well after the accident was impossible for me to do while on their medication but they insisted I needed it to heal and function, even in a diminished capacity.

I finally said F this!!! I told the doc to stuff his lifetime scripts and that I was going to medicate myself. I did so and continue to do so by smoking a little reefer and drinking some beers, which I was soundly admonished for.

If I had followed their orders I would have had to quit working because no one is capable of taking that sh!t and functioning normally, period. I have cost the taxpayers nothing and have paid the cost of my medication on my own and have lived a fairly great life, sure it ain't always been easy or pain free but it sure as hell beats the alternative.

I wonder how many people listen to the doc's and live their miserable lives as prescribed?

So Steyr_m, would you have relegated me to that life? Would you relegate me to that life today? Would you have liked to have paid for me to be yet another useless drag on society? I'm not trying to be an asshole but I think your line of thoughts needs re-evaluation.

I don't condone the use of government to make other people do (or not do) what I think is good for them. If they choose to do things that are not good for them, it is strictly their business. Drugs should be legalized, just like alcohol is legal. If people want to behave irresponsibly while under the influence of drugs, they should suffer the consequences.

What business does the government have to deny its people the use of a natural plant that has beneficial effects. If government wants to protect us, they should deny their people the use of harmful drugs, such as psychiatric antidepressants--the SSRI inhibitors like Prozac, and that genre of drugs that make people truly crazy, and cause mental instability when people are abruptly taken off their doses. Marijuana has no such effects. One of its beneficial effects is that it makes it easy to put your mind into a meditative state similar to praying. It allows you to be more creative. Musicians know this.

Of course all our 'law abiding citizens' who have absorbed the government's propaganda against marijuana wouldn't know this because they don't want to break the law by trying it. They just might discover that the laws are far worse than the drug.

I don't believe Marijuana is a gateway drug.

preparations of opium, cocaine, and marijuana were the 3 most widely used medications before 1937 - besides alcohol & tobacco (and coffee).

our grandparents and great-grandparents seem to have managed their health care quite well.

most health problems were treated using substances with centuries old usage histories.

health care was affordable. cannabis, opium, and cocaine were central to that affordable health care.

compared to what we have today ?

our great-grandparents did a better job managing their health care than we do.

the un-affordability of American health care is one of the main reasons American manufacturing disintegrated.

Americans have trouble admitting that our fancy, super-expensive health care has benefited the General Public very little.

drugs like Dexedrine were also legal 80 years ago.

did America have a meth or speed problem in 1933 ? if they did, they were awfully quiet about it.

It is illegal because it can be used to become too powerful.

In Canada it is illegal but everywhere.

Money is a gateway drug.

Give a child a nickel and they use it to get what they want which is happiness...and they are hooked for life basically...It is an anti depressant.

Prior to 1900 the average life expectancy was low.

There is a sweet spot where the population was healthy enough to live long without hardly any medical care...the first third of the 20th century.

Now the cost of buying time to exist is rising exponentially.

The Feds don't care about pot smokers; they just keep HEMP illegal in order to maintain the power, medicine, and fuel monopolies

Saturday, January 05, 2013 by: S. D. Wells

(NaturalNews) The Feds (federal government) couldn't care LESS about pot smokers (only book), and a bunch of people feeling happy and eating nachos late at night while talking about the universe and maybe a little "green" peace. In fact, the U.S. government only cares about keeping HEMP FARMING ILLEGAL because that, my friends, will ruin the corporate medicine, power and fuel conglomerates. Think about it; cigarettes and alcohol cause diseases and deaths right and left, but nobody overdoses on pot, so what is so bad about it? Hemp! Hemp is what is so "bad" about marijuana, and the United States government does not want or need the competition. If they legalize pot, they legalize the growing of hemp, it's that simple. (http://www.breitbart.com (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/10/13/Danish-Wind-Turbine-Company-That-Received-Over-50-Million-In-Stimulus-Lays-Off-800-Workers))

If you don't know about it already, no plant on earth, not even soy, has ever spawned as many different products (http://www.naturalnews.com/038570_hemp_marijuana_monopoly.html#) (and as much controversy) as hemp. You can buy (http://www.naturalnews.com/038570_hemp_marijuana_monopoly.html#) hemp clothing, hemp paper, hemp milk, hemp oil, the list goes on. One Canadian company actually built an electric car (http://www.naturalnews.com/038570_hemp_marijuana_monopoly.html#) out of hemp. Hemp is "taxonomically identical" to marijuana, as both are classified as Cannabis Sativa L, and the only true difference between them is the concentration of THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance in pot, of which marijuana usually contains at least three percent.

Say goodbye to pesticides, GMOs, and fertilizers

Hemp can be used for natural medicine, food, textiles, medicine, paper, clothing and affordable shelter. Hemp can serve as natural fuel for homes, cars, and businesses. The power companies that charge you hundreds of dollars every month would be crippled. Thousands of retail "conglomerates" would go under. Gas companies would go bankrupt. People could get healthy, instead of eating processed foods and GMO pesticide-laden, cancer causing food. That's right, cancer could be prevented and cured. Forget about marching for the cure, cannabis and hemp would be the new "dynamic duo" of food and medicine in the United States, and all over the earth. So what do the feds and the mainstream media do about hemp and its impending MASS BENEFITS? Look over there - distraction! Let's talk about whether or not people should be allowed to smoke pot, that way nobody will think about hemp (http://www.naturalnews.com/hemp.html) being legalized, which would only solve nearly every resource crisis in the United States. The media has everyone debating about pot heads instead of natural resources, you see?

Living off the grid

Millions of people living "off the grid" is a problem. It's a huge problem for the government and the corporations that overcharge and abuse the power of supplying energy and resources to the country. Gas and power rank at the top of that "food chain." Let me explain.

If the U.S. government legalizes marijuana (http://www.naturalnews.com/marijuana.html) at the federal level, and all or most of the states follow suit shortly thereafter, that would mean everyone could grow hemp. If everyone can grow "pot," then everyone becomes their own small farmer, and for reasons far beyond some practical vegetable garden that provides a tasty, healthy salad. Far beyond the "weed" garden of "the herb" that helps with cataracts, skin cancer, allergies, and nausea.

Hemp becomes your second job and your greatest source of wealth, because growing it eliminates major bills you incur regularly, bills which are influenced by inflation, corrupt government, and everyone's use and misuse of it around you (http://greenlivingideas.com (http://greenlivingideas.com/2009/09/09/74-years-henry-ford-predicted-hemp-cars-powered-biofuels/)). Suddenly, you drop off the grid, actually growing your own power, fuel, clothing, building materials and food, and very healthy food at that. Have you really taken a long look at the benefits of hemp, or did you think that was just a "hippy" thing?

Hemp nation USA!

By the way, do not expect any successful GREEN ENERGY development and resources coming from the government any time soon. That's like "the war on drugs" the "war on cancer, and the war on terror" - all complete hoaxes. Why do you think the government won't mass produce solar panels and wind mills? Oops, so much for power bills! Most Americans spend 40 hours a month working just to pay their power and fuel bills. Why do you think we are at war, because terrorists threaten our way of life? No. It's for free oil from abroad to be sold in United States.
(http://www.naturalnews.com (http://www.naturalnews.com/032258_economic_collapse_2012.html#ixzz2EZN7Yb12))

Top reasons for the U.S. government's "War on Hemp"

Hemp as fuel and clean energy: Question: Who needs a welfare check or social security when you can grow a few grand worth of hemp every month in your own back yard? (http://reason.org/news/show/1002979.html) Are you still not sure? "Hemp fuel is a way out of oil! Planting only six percent of the continental United States with biomass crops such as hemp would supply all current domestic demands for oil and gas." That's perfect for cars, homes, small businesses and living off the grid. (http://www.hempowered.com/hemp-fuel.html)

Hemp as medicine: Who says hemp can cure cancer? Should you know more about hemp seed oil and cannabis sativa? Are any doctors talking about it? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlAPAiAvEtA) Does hemp oil contain omega-3s, which are devoid in most U.S. food, but which are vital to good health? Yes. Another question: Can you buy hemp seed oil legally online and have it delivered to your home? Yes, you can.

Hemp clothing is free of chemicals. Goodbye formaldehyde and skin allergies.
(http://www.rawganique.com/) Organic linens are sold right here in the U.S. legally, but who knows? You could be wearing chemical-free, eco-friendly, cruelty-free hemp products that are made in the U.S. Oh, and what about water conservation and being environmentally friendly? Hemp plants need around 50 percent less water per season than cotton does, and hemp can grow with little irrigation. The facts are out there: http://www.washingtonpost.com (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/environment/green-lantern-can-hemp-help-the-environment-or-is-it-just-marijuana/2011/03/29/AFtRPlMD_story.html)

Hemp is essential food: Seeds of the plant "cannabis sativa" (hemp seeds) contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs
(http://store.naturalnews.com/Organic-Shelled-Hempseed_p_97.html). Plus, hemp provides sustainability. Hemp is 100 percent biodegradable, so bye-bye pollution from plastics, like bisphenol-A (BPA).

Hemp for storage and emergencies: Learn about survival and "surthrival" during natural disasters, nuclear disasters, GMO pollution and more. The Health Ranger has done his "homework" on this subject thoroughly, and you can and should learn the basics. (http://www.naturalnews.com/033985_Surthrival_course.html)

Lastly, why do you think alternative fuel agendas are a big joke, full of companies which are federally funded, but running for the hills, with the federal funds feeding huge salaries and bonuses that bankrupt the companies? These businesses are made to fail, period. Natural News has covered this well before. Health enthusiasts all over the world are waking up to the truth about natural resources and natural medicine. Mike Adams said it best, "We are living through the end of one era and the birth of a new one." Anyone against it calls it a drug. It's not a drug but a plant. They don't call tobacco a drug.

It's not a drug but a plant.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects. THC changes behavior by binding fitting together like a lock and key to receptors on nerve cells, which then respond with a change in activity.

Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in certain areas of the brain associated with thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination and time perception. There are also cannabinoid receptors on nerves in other parts of the body. THC relieves pain, but it doesn't bind to the same receptors in the brain as opioids such as heroine, morphine and other drugs derived from the poppy plant.

THC stimulates cells in the brain to release dopamine, creating euphoria. It also interferes with how information is processed in the hippocampus, which is part of the brain responsible for forming new memories. THC can induce hallucinations, change thinking and cause delusions. These effects of marijuana (http://www.livescience.com/24558-marijuana-effects.html) make it a popular drug, but they also concern mental health advocates. THC can trigger a relapse in schizophrenic symptoms, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

A debate continues on marijuana's benefits as a medicine (http://www.livescience.com/24554-medical-marijuana.html). During a 2004 congressional testimony, a doctor speaking on behalf of the FDA said marijuana as a botanical product is difficult to test for efficacy and safety because the proportions of active chemicals can range greatly from plant to plant. This, he said, can also cause problems for patients trying to use marijuana. But he added that the FDA will be receptive to sound, scientifically based research into the medicinal uses of botanical marijuana and other cannabinoids.

THC is one of many compounds found in the resin excreted by glands of the marijuana plant. More of these glands are found around the reproductive organs of the plant than on any other area of the plant. Other compounds unique to marijuana (http://www.livescience.com/24559-marijuana-facts-cannabis.html), called cannabinoids, are present in this resin and may lessen the effect of THC.

While I disagree Book, I appreciate the discourse.

I'm hopeful this will be behind us one day soon and we'll be watching HBO series about this authoritarian prohibition too.

not to be blasphemous, but this always had a reasonable argument to it:

It is illegal because it can be used to become too powerful.

In Canada it is illegal but everywhere.

Money is a gateway drug.

Give a child a nickel and they use it to get what they want which is happiness...and they are hooked for life basically...It is an anti depressant.

That I hate to admit is fantismal!

The Feds don't care about pot smokers; they just keep HEMP illegal in order to maintain the power, medicine, and fuel monopolies

Harry J. Anslinger testified before Congress and the Marijuana Tax Stamp Act of 1937 became law. The law required that to possess marijuana one must have a Federal tax stamp for it, but in order to get the stamp you must have the marijuana in hand.

Well, if you have the marijuana in hand you had already broken the law. Additionally Anslinger knew there would be no stamps issued anyway. The mayor of New York City at this time borrowed some marijuana from Anslinger and set up his own commission to study the issue. The La Guardia Commission's findings refuted everything the Government was saying and all that Anslinger testified to, but the fix was in and the La Guardia Commission was virtually ignored. Anslinger later admitted his testimony wasn't true and in fact marijuana was relatively harmless. The push for prohibition started in the southwest as a means to keep Mexicans from crossing the border taking Gringo jobs. It was simple Mexicans smoked marijuana, Gringos drank alcohol. Scapegoat the drug you can scapegoat the people. Thus based on lies, racism and politics America's war on marijuana smokers had begun.

http://www.hemp.org/images/anslinger.jpg
The 1937 Tax Stamp Act was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court for obvious reasons in 1970. This led to the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. A law designed to once and for all hide the facts about marijuana and make it impossible for the truth to ever get in the way of prohibition again. President Nixon set up the Shaffer Commission on Drugs around this time expecting his appointees to support his prohibitionist policies. The President had a lot of pot smoking Anti - War protesters to deal with. Surprisingly the Shaffer Commission's outcome was about the same as the La Guardia Commission's report, that marijuana was relatively harmless and that drugs were a medical problem not a criminal one. It also found the government's claims about marijuana were untrue. This led to some interesting and questionable provisions in the 1970 Controlled Substances Act.

First, the Drug Czar is required to lie about any substance that is listed as schedule 1,(Dangerous and has no medical value). This explains the outrageous things the government says about marijuana but also illuminates the fact that you can't believe anything the government says about it. The government's excuse for prohibition has gone from, "It will cause you to kill yourself an others and then you will go crazy', to 'Well it's dangerous but we don't know how and by the way it has no medical value'.

In addition to this provision there is another that allows no research without the marijuana for the research being supplied by, and the research being approved by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This little provision protects against another La Guardia or Shaffer Commission letting the truth about marijuana get in the way of prosecuting users. Interestingly enough the Drug Enforcement Administration has neither supplied marijuana for research or approved any research in forty years. That's kinda like the tax stamp act isn't it?

It is obvious that the current laws on marijuana are not only unjust and dictatorial but amount to the systematic persecution of a portion of the population based simply on the type of drug they choose to use for their medical or recreational uses. In a country based on the just rule of law these laws are an abomination and a stain on the integrity of our Justice System.
The time has come for our leaders to acknowledge the failed state of our current drug policies. It's time to end the War on Drugs. Americans need the jobs, the government needs the revenue and we need to bring our drug laws back to a level of integrity that the people can once again trust and support.

2 of the bigger businesspeople in the marijuana sphere were/are Marc Emery (Canadian) and an English guy named Gypsy Nirvana.

Gypsy Nirvana was just the name of his wife's tattoo shop. He basically picked up where Emery left off - selling seeds to Americans.

In many states that is illegal, and the US DEA acts like it's a BIG DEAL. About 5 years after Emery was arrested, 'Gypsy' was arrested, with the help of the Philippine government.

http://globalnation.inquirer.net/84603/briton-wanted-for-drug-trafficking-in-us-nabbed-in-subic?ModPagespeed=noscript

"There will be no letup in the BIs campaign to catch foreign fugitives who are hiding in the country to evade prosecution for their crimes,Mison said in a statement.

He said Nirvana, who is now detained at the BI detention center in Bicutan, Taguig City was arrested on August 27 at the Subic Freeport in Olongapo.

Mison added that a US district court in Maine had issued a warrant for Nirvanas arrest after he was indicted on multiple counts of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

The BI chief described the Briton as a high-profile fugitive, adding that a team of US marshals was expected to fetch him in Manila after the BI Board of Commissioners issues an order for his summary deportation.

For several years, the suspect profited hugely from his UK-based a marijuana seed auction business, which catered mostly to American customers who transacted with him either via the Internet or by mail and money wire transfers, Mison said.

He added that the racket was uncovered only after several informants, who were Nirvanas former associates, tipped US authorities about his activities.

On July 11, 2011, customs agents at the Boston Logan International Airport in Maine intercepted a UK-bound shipment of marijuana seeds that were allegedly purchased by Nirvana, Mison said."

This article is dated August 31, 2013, so this is a recent thing. Some marijuana grower in Maine was arrested, he got a reduced sentence for providing evidence against Gypsy.

Gypsy's website was iCMag.com (International Cannagraphic.) Sort of like an up-scale High Times.

My guess about how Gypsy managed to get away with doing something the US gov. considers illegal is, he has a military background (for the UK) and travels a lot for his magazine articles. Photographing Cannabis in Afghanistan, for example. My guess is, he made himself useful to MI-6 (and the CIA & Israel), and that's why he got the "free pass" for about 12 years (2001 to 2013.)
