I can wish and will wish for certain things but that does not mean that my wishes will come true. Sometimes reality gets in the way of dreams and fantasies.

Without dreams there would be no reality and that's why I am a dreamer because that's the only way that I can confront reality.

Maybe that's the message ol' Coop is trying to tell us. You can't wish for dreams, you have to follow them. Fantasies is when you have a lack of dreams.

That is a good point Liquid. A dream will not just fall on your lap. I guess that following a dream involves planning out how to realistically make it come true. I guess in my case I just have fantasies since I do not have any dreams (as far as I know). Maybe I am wrong on that. I do not really know. For me, reality usually dictates what I can and cannot do. I guess that reality also makes me more skeptical about certain things and certain people in life.

It's good to have your feet grounded to reality Art. However, dreams are good because they really are synonymous with goals and aspirations, which we should all have. This is where Cooper makes a solid argument, "you can't wish for it", you have to take steps to achieve your dreams.

The Tree of Wisdom is a false idol, Saul.

Maybe we should consult the Lady of Wisdom.

I do not have any goals and aspirations in life except to be happy. I have achieved my goal of being happy in life. I am just currently maintaining my happiness level.

I think that begs the question of whether being content..is the same as being happy. I'm content too Art, but I also find happiness in achieving goals I set for myself.

That is a good question Liquid. I just know that I feel happy but maybe it is just possible to be happy by being content. I guess that really depends on the person and what makes that person happy. Everybody is different in what makes them happy. For me having hobbies such as my silver art bar collecting makes me happy and I will continue to pursue that hobbies and other hobbies that make me happy.

I was wrong in my earlier post when I said that I do not have any goals and aspirations in life. As a result, I need to correct myself by saying that I do have one goal in life and my goal in life is to completely become debt free. I want to become debt free before I turn 40 years old. Once I become debt free, then that will make me feel very good. Being debt free is a goal that I have set for myself for quite a while now and slowly but surely I am getting there.

You'll get there Art, I know you will. Being debt free brings a newfound freedom. My goal is not just be debt free, but be just off the grid completely. 'Bill' free, you could say. Generate my own electricity, water, etc. I am working on that and getting there slowly. I'd like to be able to just go sailing and take care of all my needs myself.

General, what I like about Cooper...is that he's a philosopher. He's a thinking man, with short pondering quotes. I'd say he's welcome here, in my book. ;)

Of course he's welcome.

But IMHO, participation also includes following up and actually interacting with others at least a little bit.
As opposed to starting a thread and getting interactive responses, but then never following up on them.

All that does is cause others to eventually quit responding to that person as often.
Which then leads to them posting threads that start off with "nobody likes me here...boo hoo hoo for me". ::)

If you're going to go anywhere in this World and start making cryptic predictions and such and want others to take you seriously in any way shape or form, at least fill people in after the fact so they can see what you were referring to.
Otherwise you'll just start being written-off more and more often.
...and have no one to blame but yourself.

Liquid, I agree, but he's not been acting like the DB I know from GIM1.

I don't remember him from the old site, but maybe he needs some guidance. Folks sometimes have a funny way of asking for help.

He's just a joker that forgets to take his meds and lashes out waaaay too often. Oh the stories.... I think mamboni summed it up eloquently and quite too kindly in a previous topic on the subject...

As he does in most of his posts.
