funny you should post this, i just posted a thread about the same issue.

almost 75% of the time, the site doesn't load for me anymore. i find myself not coming here as much anymore. i hope somebody can fix it. it's gotten much worse in the past 2 weeks or so.

I'm able to log-in OK, it's the navigating between pages(on GSUS) that at times is really slow

Probably an issue with the database. As it gets larger you need more ram to cull (search) the database. So more than likely just needs a RAM upgrade as it's not populating within the specific time frame.

I use Firefox and the site still has been refusing to load over the last few weeks.
Sometimes will load if I cancel and retry, but sometimes just hangs.

FF is the better browser but I'm still getting the same issues as everyone else. I'm using FF4b4 FWIW.

I think it's time for GSUS to get a dedicated server.

I'm not sure who hosts it now but maybe try

I'm on the latest version of FF as well, and I still get the slow/locked server. I don't know anything about how forums/servers work, but I know that JQP is trying to fix it. I'll make sure all the suggestions make their way to JQP. In the meantime, any and all other suggestions are welcome until this gets solved!

I get the same effect at other forums, one running SMF and one running vBulletin. Also youtube.com, vimeo.com, pixyard.com, and some others. It happens most often at G-SUS. There are lots of sites where it has never happened.

When I click a link the progress bar may or may not indicate loading a portion of the page. It may stop loading at any point. If I press Esc, whatever portion of the page has loaded is displayed. If I click the link again, or reload, the page may load normally or it may be delayed again.

I've been using only Firefox on Windows and Linux and my experience is the same. It has gotten progressively worse and has led to me not bothering to visit anywhere near as often. The most frustrating is working up a post and being unable to submit it. When the problem first got started I thought people were overreacting for a new, non-paid forum. It has reached proporions guranteed to stifle new membership as the current membership is starting to not tolerate it.

By the way, I get the same server timeouts posting from my phone (like now) so I seriously doubt the problem is client side.

Yeah but Ponce, since you are a legend, nobody can say no to you. While it is certainly possible for somebody to say no to you, it is not very likely that someone would do that to you because that person would end up looking very bad. No one wants to be known as the person who said no to the legend. ;D ;D ;D

Yea, I'm sure you're right about that.
But if it is godaddy that's causing the problem, why would the www.gold-silver.us page still load when the others won't?

On intermittently this evening, and I've only been locked out once, which is actually great for me, lately. And strangely, it was a blank white page. No error.

I am usually on a lot more, and I usually get a lot more errors. The timeouts occurred more frequently than any other site I have known, even back in the beginning, with an occasional database error. This last week has been really bad with more timeouts than successes, plenty of db errors.

In my opinion, the errors are absolutely server side, not client side (browser), and the base URL loads rapidly every time for me, as well. This leads me to believe that the forum itself is suspect, not the hosting provider.

I hope that we don't lose a bunch of good posters because of technical problems. :boohoo I just think back to all of the other reasons someone might have wanted to leave and didn't . . . If we can make it past some of those problems, we have to make it past this one too!

i just got this error:

"mysql server has gone away."

this is because whoever hosts this site has set the timeout to a low number, probably something like 15 seconds (that's what most of them do). by default, mysql is set to 28,000 i think (it's something huge like that, can't remember exactly).

hosting services do this to limit resources and balance loads across shared hosting.

somebody either needs to move this to a dedicated server or find a way to increase the mysql timeout. more ram probably needs to be added to the server as well.

With 452 other domains on the server besides this one, it kind of explains why they might do that.

Also, with that many domains, is it even possible to add enough memory? :D

95% of the time I try a search (when I used to try it) I am locked out for 2-3 minutes. Site has been doing this for months (since the start?).

Now it does this basically every time I make a new post. If I am just editing a post or making a new post of only a few seconds typing one or two words (a test) it will not lock me out.

And it seems I am randomly locked out for the 2-3 minutes about every half hour I spend on the site reading through posts.

Another site I post at with this software hosted by siteground had the same 2-3 minute lockout issues for searches (useless) and new posts. Did it for about 8 months but it stopped last fall. But it was not quite the same, here when I am locked out I am locked out totally, new browser window will not connect to the site until the 2-3 minutes from the first lockout, at the other place I could still open a new window to the site during this time.
